In the 12 hours since 3PV was introduced without the separate queue we were promised, it's cost me two matches.

One example:

On Tourmeline, my lance was flanking around the usual enemy entrenched positions at the central dropship wreckage. We were skirting a low ridge and using it as cover as we moved to the left rear of the enemy positions.

Suddenly, as we were half way there, we started to take LRM fire and four enemy Mechs moved in behind us to engage us.

As I turned to engage, I realised that a fourth player in my lance - a stranger - still had his big red Noob Beacon deployed. It had been hovering above the ridge that we'd been using as cover, and of course had alerted the enemy team to where we were.

This is one reason why some of us felt it was so important to have the option to not play with 3PV players. It's not just a matter of whether I choose to use it. The choices that others make - on my team, or the opposition - have an effect of how well I can play this game.

...or 'stupid people have lost me two matches already'

3PV being added hasnt reduced or increase the number of stupid players in MWO.

This is a very interesting and valid point you make. One that further pushes me out of the game.

They wanna see how it goes for a week in live game play, I guess I'm gonna sit it out a week.

But then, stupid people lose me EVERY match in MWO! (Just kidding, I assure you.)

But seriously, adding 3PV seems to have provided a new means for inexperienced players to spoil (the already scant options available for) battle tactics.

The supposed Leet players have "always" blamed the Newbs/Pugs for their loses. How is that any different now?

I think his point was that it increases the impact of their actions.

Its a valid point cause its true.... I am here drone deployed is just cause for blaming the outcome on the Newbs/Pugs.
deploying that drone completely changes the game.

Sounds like another Crutch.

We'll add it to the list of crutches: Newbs, Premades, PUGs, Pugstompers, memes, Lag, Framerate, PGI, IGP, Convergence, Heat, Heatsinks, Mechlab, HUD Bug, Kaleidoscope, 3rd PV, Hemorrhoids, and Mimes.

Sorry, but this is NOT a crutch - it is a very valid problem since you simply cannot pull off flanking or other movement tactics if everyone knows where you team is thanks to a big blinking drone above the new-guy's head. It makes Seismic look like a toy in comparison when the drone is active.

Because Scouts, Seismic, and Common Sense can't alert the enemy to your presence too, right?

I think that statement is kind of funny, considering the demographic 3PV intentionally aims to bring into the game....

Scouts require risk and effort, and everyone has already grumbled about how Seismic vastly reduces tactical options in the game by punishing surprise maneuvers. So, let's add another feature that gives away positions, but make it so it punishes new players most heavily. Good idea... right.

Really? What demographic is that?

So you're mad because 3rd Person View punishes players too much for using it? ....

It's my understanding that the driving motive for 3PV was to entice players who couldn't understand independant legs and torso facing to keep playing. Honestly, such a concept shouldn't be rocket science, but spatial awareness is apparently in short supply these days.

So along with no tutorial, new players don't get told that 3pv, on by default, puts a bright red beacon over their head?

Actually this is a very valid point, because it's not stupid players doing this. Why? because NO WHERE are you told that the drone is a big blinky floaty ball.

If you don't come to the site as PGI holds fast the majority of the players don't than how would you know unless someone told you?

From the patch notes:

Quote

- When you are in third person view, there is a camera drone hovering behind you that other players can see

From the patch notes:

The kind of players 3PV has explicitly been stated to target are unlikely to read patch notes... you did not disprove the point that you need to actively seek the information, you actually reinforced it since patch notes are not shown in the client.
