Hello, I am new and am just getting my self a little confused so have a few questions. 1, Im using the trial mechs at the moment. Am I correct in thinking the only way to get other mechs is to get MC and use that to get them? Or can you just unlock by playing? 2, Do you have to buy weapons for a mech if you wish to change them? 3, how do you buy/sell mechs from other players? Thank You

You can buy new mechs with in game currency (c-bills) that you earn from playing matches or use MC (costs real money). Yes once you buy a mech if you want to modify it with different weapons then you will have to buy them while modifying them in the mechlab. You can only modify mechs that you own. Trial mechs you have to use "as is". You cannot buy or sell mechs from other players. You can sell mechs that you purchased though for c-bills. Just make sure before you sell a mech that you take any equipment off of it that you might want to swap to another mech.

1) no, you can also buy Mechs with CBills - the ingame currency. (Does not count for Hero and Champion Mechs)
2) yes, of course you have to. But bought weapons stay until you sell them (single or with the whole mech)
3) you cant!

You can buy new mech with EITHER MC or C-bills. Hero mechs and champion mechs are MC-only, but the regular variants can be bought with either currency. you will earn 8 million c-bills during your 'cadet bonus' for the first 25 matches which will be enough to buy almost any mech you may wish to buy. (after 25 matches your income will drop to normal levels, which is much lower than the cadet bonus)
You can buy new weapons, and you can also take weapons from one mech and move them into another mech. note mechs have hardpoints and only certain weapons fit in certain spots on each mech.
you cannot buy mechs from other players. PGI would not be able to sell you a mech for MC if you could get one from another player, that would not be a sustainable game model.

Hey before you buy a mech read this http://mwomercs.com/...petitive-level/ and this http://mwomercs.com/...mech-tier-list/ that way you'll know you're starting off with a good mech for your 1st one and you can figure out a build using this http://mwo.smurfy-net.de/mechlab based off info in those posts.

Also, before you put up 4M cbills on a light thinking you'll be golden, you'll almost always need an XL engine for that bad boy which will run another 4M cbills or more.

Also before you buy anything, consider your play style. Do you like to fight up close or do you want to be at a distance and rain death on your enemies? Do you like running around like a maniac or are you content to be slower but with more armor and guns? Once you figure out how you want to play, you can tell the guys on the forum and they will be happy to give out suggestions as to the mech which best suit your needs.
Just remember to get the most out of your mech you will need three diffent types of the same chassis (like three different configuations of Jenners or Hunchbacks or Stalkers or whichever mech you choose).
Earning C-bills is kind of rough right now, so be very careful before you make any purchases. You do not have to sell everything if you take things off your mech, so you can use them on other mechs if you want. Actually most people will tell you not to sell ANYTHING as you might want it later.
Selling mechs (and again most will say 'Don't do it!') is not profitable, you get about half of what you initially pay for the mech and NONE of the C-bills you paid for upgrades.
The only way to get more mech bays is through paying for them with MC.

Drowning the poor guy in advanced info.
Listen, here's the basics of what you need for now.
First, play approximately 25 matches with the trial mech; that's when your cadet bonus (super cash flow) ends. Notice at the end of each match when you click on more details, you see a huge sum of money? That's the ingame currency / money. We call them c-bills.
Below is a picture; you can make it bigger by clicking on it.
This is the window for purchasing your mech. is real life cash. is the in-game money you earn by playing.
Notice where it says 2 prices, one for and one for ? The "Buy MC" and "Buy CB" buttons mean "Buy with MC" and "Buy with CBills." I have petitioned to have it read better with the correction for so many months that I'm just tired of trying.
Your first question as answered, is that you can use in-game currency to buy most mechs. Only Champions (just regular mechs with pre-installed upgrades and experience boosts) and Heroes (special mechs with some lore, a unique set of hardpoints, paintjob, and earning boost) are only.
Your second question, upgrading and changing weapons -- this is only limited by a hardpoint system and a 'slot' system which basically says "If it's energy, you can mount it at an energy hardpoint. If it's missiles, you can mount it at a missile hardpoint," sort of thing. The second part of that, the slot system, says "If your weapon requires 14 slots but you only have 3, you can't mount it here." Those are your only two limitations.
Your third question - PGI's given an official statement on this. "It allows for abuse of the system." Sorry bud, nothing can be done about that.
Oh, you're welcome and welcome to MWO.

Before you buy a mech, try to hold off until you have at least 10-13 mil c-bills in your coffers.
It can feel like a drag waiting that long, but researching into what mech you want and how you will outfit it will yield a happy decision when you finally do buy your first mech. Building a mech on smurfy will also tell you how much you will need to "pay" for it.
