I recently had an idea for some kind of system that would allow players to trade or auction equipment. In addition to this I had also been thinking of some way to incorporate some kind of special tech or clan tech that would really give reason to trading or salvage. With the concept of factions emerging it would be conceivable for there to be tournaments held by each house with prizes such as perked weapons (low heat, fast fire, etc) or special equipment (refractive/reactive armor, clan c.a.s.e, etc) that would only be attainable through such means. Being able to trade these items between players would bring greater depth to the customization that makes up such a big part of this game.
Personally I believe the option to sell your equipment currently is more of a matter of willpower than anything due to the grind for those wonderful little c-bills we all love so much. The cut you take when you sell something big like an engine or a chassis is horrific but the grind makes it so tempting. And being as not everyone has the ability to get MC it would be nice to have some other way of potentially acquiring that shiny "new" Muromets.
And say you walk away from some tournament with a set of something like an LRM6 for example that would have same weight and such but you get an extra missle out of each volley, for what its worth. Say you hate missles and would like that .3 second burst laser that has been put up for auction. This would allow for everyone to be able to break away from the simple grind for cbills and might help the afk problem as well by being able to compete for equipment directly.
I mentioned before the concept of salvage from matches. Right now it isnt really a conceivable idea because who really cares about picking up the odd machine gun or small laser? Even the odd LRM20 isnt THAT big of a deal. However the odd clan machine gun or ER LRM20 that would not be available in store would be so cool. And say their were ways to improve your odds of salvage like Headshots, crit hits to actuators rather than weapons, or even performance modifiers. This could change the dynamic of punching for that CT with the temptation of the potential gear with that risky headshot. As well as this it really gives player more incentive to get in the game rather than go afk or chain quit matches for a quick buck. This would also prevent people from loading out mechs completely with special tech because of the increased risk of losing a potential piece.
To be eligible for salvage say your team must be victorious, you must be alive at the end of a round, and you must have destroyed at least one enemy. Assuming these are met, you could break it down further by having per limb/item damage restrictions. Say overall damage gives you a base number. You destroy an enemy with heavy damage to all limbs and he falls at 20 percent overall damage giving you a base of 2.0% chance to salvage an item. Say engine destruction was the cause of death, let that add -50% chance to salvage. Say you divide that number by the amount of destroyed limbs and then add up to one percent for any remaining items depending on damage ranging from one to ten. A number of factors could really affect the outcome.
Needless to say the math is not important; I just had an idea and want to know what you all think! Thanks for reading!
tl;dr : Special stuff not in store that you can trade with your friends and rip from your dying enemies! And a way to not feel bad about selling your mechs and stuff.

I don't like the idea to take away things off your enemies. They are also people, and it wouldn't be fun to loose that lovely clan ERMlas you got (example).
I like the auction house/trade house idea. Very lovely
But salvaging enemies mechs, and have the player loose the parts, that would be a reason for me to quit playing this game, and a lot of casual players would quit too, they don't play so often, so, loosing their precious weapons they worked so hard to get, would be really punishing, and, game that are too punishing are bad games, it has to be hard, but it doesn't to be punishing...
For salvaging, for example, PGI could include a Co-op VS AI mode, so you play against computers, and they don't care about loosing their weapons, so, that would be cool. But in PVP, no, just no.

I think it could add for more strategy, giving you more of a sense of self preservation
I do think the chance of salvage should be very small but like I said with ways to bring up your odds. Destroying someones cockpit with them not taking any other damage would be a serious feat. Maybe some way to fight back for it? Trials of possession anyone?
