I'm not so sure if its the hitboxes that are hurting the Awesome so much....
Its the Cover-based game MWO is.
Its the armor system that is based off a system designed for a TT game where hits are random.
Notice that almost all Assault Mechs have the same basic humanoid structure?
The stalker is different, but not too disadvantaged thanks to its rather normal scaled front side.
What we have is this extreme focus on the geometry on a mech.
Theoretically, this should work, assuming all Mechs have the relatively same hit boxes (Either Humanoid or chicken-like).
Except that many designs that try to be more unique will have extreme trouble.
The Thanatos would have the same problems that the Awesome does.
We need a better armor system, with quirks given to specific mechs that add a double-edged sword to being bulky like the Awesome or having the big center torso of the Dragon- Stuff like extra inherit armor on the front torsos with no extra tonnage cost .

I disagree

Thanatos will have exactly the opposite problem than Awesome; it has two HUGE side torso's and a small center torso, which would be an excellent change in gameplay if we pretend PGI is going to release it anytime soon, which they won't because it's a very late mech.

The Awesome's problem is two fold:

1. It does nothing other mechs don't do better because of the poor implementation of scale

2. No hardpoint limitations void the concept of the mech. The Awesome is the "Awesome" because it carries 3 PPC bores. In MWO, you can make a light mech carry 4 PPC's is you really want too...

Its the hitbox. Still if you go fast was ok. Haven't run it for months.

Same here, after I got a Victor I haven't touched my Awesomes. Especially since the only thing they did decently was boating lots of large lasers or PPCs (which the Stalker did better anyway), both of which got hit the hardest by the heat scale.

Hate to say it, but GridIroN is right. Stalkers were the "go-to" mech during the ppc wars a few months back, because it can holster a crapton of ppcs. Then the Highlanders became popular particularly for its jumpjets and the ballistic punch it carries - which prompted the poptart war, and more use of cataphracts and highlanders because of it. Then came the victors, which weigh the same as the Awesome but is more durable, can carry a larger engine - and has ballistics, followed by the heat penalty nerf, which gives us the current meta that seems to be leaning a lot towards ballistics recently.

All in all, most current mechs now can carry more than two ppcs if they wanted to, which kills the uniqueness of the Awesome - as it is primarily designed to boat ppcs. The heat penalty patch penalized the Awesome most of all, since it is primarily an energy boat (excluding the other missile variants), and since the main community seems to hate the Awesome because it doesn't perform well as other mechs...well...

You get the picture. And that's just the tip of the iceberg of what is stacked against the Awesome, not including the technical issues it has and the lack of support it gets from others. I'm pretty sure there are other people here that can debrief you on the issue with the Awesome.

As for armor, I'm not sure what you mean by double-edged sword, but adding more armor to the Awesome would probably prompt a backlash - since the Victor and the Awesome have the same amount of armor.

It would be nice if they give special perks or something to the Awesome, give it some loving, that the sort. It's getting rather lonely seeing myself as the only Awesome mech in most matches....other than the 8R variants, which seems to be the Awesome's main role nowadays. D:
