Hi,

I have trouble figuring out why taking something else but AC2... They do almost the same DPS as others, but fire farther and take much less slots. Ammo per ton is decent, weight is ok. Shell travel time is very good.

Some reasons:
  • AC2s will run hot
  • AC2s require you to stay visible while firing
  • AC2s require you to constantly face the target
  • AC2s will spread damage even with good aim on a moving target
  • AC2s can miss with some shots as you adjust your aim on a target
  • AC2s eat ammo like mad
2 of my Jagermechs (JM6-S/DD) run 2xAC2+2xUAC/AC 5s. The AC2s act as tracers more than damage dealers allowing me to adjust aim for the heavier rounds. My third Jagermech (JM6-A) runs many different builds, but with just it's original 2xAC2s it didn't have the killing power of the other two.

By the way 2xAC5 is effectively heat neutral with double heatsinks, which makes it in that respect better than most ballistics other than Gauss Rifles.

The best ballistic, on paper, is the AC2. The best ballistic in practice, is the UAC5. The AC2 is crazy hot, and spreads damage poorly, even with good aim.

The UAC5 outclasses it for just 3 more tones.

I do however love the weapon itself, so I enjoy using it. My K2 has one as a secondary.

AC2 doesn't start to factor as a damage dealing weapon until you bundle 3-4 of them together. Perfect for a Dragon or Cicada fast striker or for a Jager distance sniper/suppressive fire behind high cover. Otherwise it is just a support weapon.

My K2 also has one as a backup, extra damage for long range in between ERPPC shots and short range its a light mech eater as well. Its a GREAT addition to any energy heavy build. Light weight, only one slot, lots of ammo per ton and its got a great rate of fire and very fast projectiles. Sure it runs hot, but like on my K2, with all the heatsinks I have for my ERPPCs, I can fire it constantly and I will still cool down (VERY slowly but at least I know Ill never overheat firing it).

Sounds like AC2 fits your playstyle. They are a tad underwhelming compared to bigger AC in close combat. As a support fire type play, they are superb. PANG PANG PANG PANG PANG at whatever is trying to shoot your pals. Who cares if you have to look for a while, they werent targeting you anyway, and after a couple rounds hit they are going to get chicken shizzers and back off or torso twist away anyway.

but yeah they can run really hot. AC2's plus lasers can be pretty harsh during a brawl.

I use one on my CN9-A for this reason. Suppression fire while I close. Make them duck, flinch, twist - not aim at me - while I close for SRM goodness. Also good also for upping your kill assists, PANG PANG PANG every enemy you see.

Agreed. The A/C2 is best when bundled together. I use it in the Hunchback 4G because I can use 3 together. It is like a UA/C6 LOL that doesn't jam, goes farther, but is a bit heavy and a bit hotter.

I use it mostly as a sniper. It does get big damage figures, but it is a nickel and dime kind of weapon (meaning it does small amounts of damage per hit although it hits a lot).

When the Shadowhawk comes out, I will run 3 A/C2s in it as well. The extra tonnage should make it a bit easier to run than the rather small Hunchback.

I don't find Ac2 to be very threatening till you have 3 or more, but that's also when the heat penalty kicks in which is just too much heat. I bought a Cataphract 4X to try out ballistic builds I ran both 4x ac2 and 4xac5. Even thought the Ac5s have the lowest dps and outweigh the ac2s by a lot, I found the heat SOOOO much more manageable with 4 Ac5s compared to 2s. Aside from that, the higher alpha was also nice, you don't have to track your target as much to keep at full dps. The Ac5s felt more like a UAC20 with ridiculous range.

See this present post: http://mwomercs.com/...cases-for-ac-2/

In a mobile assault with enough sinks and a good aim, the results with AC/2s can be very interesting.
