You're straight up comedy gold, Pada. Keep it up. The fact that you appear to live in a completely different universe is also scientifically intriguing.

Another useless post that says nothing. At least counter my point if your going to quote it, instead of posting drivel that means nothing and basically says "he's right, i can't think of what to say, so I'll just troll and hope that works"

I did get half way through typing up my reply with (at this stage half editied screen shots). And I came back to get the wording to paraphrase your quote, saw Akulakhan's post, then your reply and said..."Y'know what. Nothing we say will make any difference to this troll. I'll spend 15 minutes arranging these screens, and for what? For you to go 'N'ya, n'ya! I can't hear you!'".

I'll close with this:

As was said above and you ignored.

Search for "mechwarrior". More that 50% of the results for page after page are nothing to do with MWO (Though "A Cautionary Tale: The Rage of the Mechwarrior Online Community..." made a nice early appearance). Search for "world of tanks" (Without quotes even!) and it is ALL World of Tanks! Funnily enough, search for "Mechwarrior online" and it's ALL Mechwarrior online. And yes, I do have an understanding of SEO having been in IT for 25 years with two close friends who work in the business (And go on about it a lot). I've just figured it out though...Actually, it's you that don't know how to use Google. That answers a lot. My seven year old daughter even knows if you want to find something specific in Google, it helps if you get specific with your search. 20+ years of related content on the web and almost 30 years of interest generating ongoing/recent searches outside of MWO ≠ "Wow. People are searching for MWO more than these other games".

which ALL leads back to this game and the SAME franchise.

Courtesy of the Merriam-Webster dictionary:

Quote

1: freedom or immunity from some burden or restriction vested in a person or group

2a : a special privilege granted to an individual or group; especially : the right to be and exercise the powers of a corporation
b : a constitutional or statutory right or privilege; especially : the right to vote
c (1) : the right or license granted to an individual or group to market a company's goods or services in a particular territory; also : a business granted such a right or license (2) : the territory involved in such a right

3a : the right of membership in a professional sports league

b : a team and its operating organization having such membership

So this being PGI's first pass at making an MW game, it's a different franchise licensing a common IP used for all of the prior Mechwarrior games.

which is not something you can say for the term "tanks", that obviously includes far more than the video game.

The term "Mechwarrior" doesn't only refer to a video game.

I've heard some people are so disconnected from the real-world they don't even know tanks exist in it though and have for 100 years now.

I've heard some people use specious arguments on the internet because they don't understand the underlying logical fallacies or informal fallacies contained therein. I've heard others do it because they think no one will catch their BS.

Mechwarrior refers to a franchise, not a video game, which is what I said. I did not say "mechwarrior refers only to mechwarrior online and nothing else"

Tanks refers to a host of things, even beyond military tanks.

even water tanks in dictionary can give an advert for "world of tanks"

Mechwarrior is obviously no where close to the word tanks in terms of search engine results or word applicability.

people who get into "mechwarrior" eventually find this website and game, inevitably.

people that look for water tanks online can stumble across "world of tanks"

the only BS here is your BS :)

You guys are arguing over nonsense.

Here's how it works:
If MWO is doing fine, then that's all there is to it. It'll be a success. If the mythical silent majority exists, then PGI will do wonderfully. Of course, if that is the case, it doesn't make a lot of sense to make tweets arguing that such a majority exists.

If the silent majority doesn't actually exist, or rather doesn't exist and actually pay PGI money, then the game is doomed.

Arguing about which is reality is purely academic. No matter how much you want one or the other to be the case, reality is reality. PGI's success will be tied to whether or not people will pay money for the game they make.

Here I would have thought that everyone who purchased a founder's package was in the "target demographic", however I see time and time again my fellow founders feel as I do. Ignored, overlooked, and just plain abused for asking PGI to make good on what they advertised when we purchased our packages and the promises of never having to fight 3PV if we so chose not to. It truly is sad to see how far this game and its developers have strayed from their own road map to launch.

On the flip side, if they do actually exist, and pay money, then all of the belly aching on the forums is a waste of time, and the ones doing so are only fooling themselves.

The point was that people searching for "Mechwarrior" are sometimes searching for things other than MWO, much like people searching for "tanks" are sometimes searching for things other than WoT.

Let's Talk About Google Trends. There is far more data available than simply search volume, and Google makes it very easy to see. Let's see what we can learn.

Here is a search for MechWarrior -- all MechWarrior -- from January 2010 to present.
Posted Image

A one-month or three-month graph is fairly useless, as the game has been out about a year and development/news began before that.

If we go back farther we hit some quite-high peaks surround news about MechWarrior 4's free edition re-release that eclipse MechWarrior Online's search volume. Not necessarily what you want to see. Let's have a look:

Posted Image

I would hope MWO can manage to get more interest leading up to "launch" but we'll have to see. It's interesting to note that MW4's re-release (G) did not peak as high as the news surrounding its re-release (F). Note that "F" and "G" are different points on the two different images

Anyhow as we can see, interest built surrounding open beta -- I've marked its scheduled point for you. We can see that interest fell back down towards the baseline fairly soon after launch, but has recently picked up. Let's see what else "MechWarrior" searchers wanted.

For the same timespan, here's related data:
Posted Image

Searches for past MechWarrior titles directly were still pretty high, although MWO-specific searches are a good chunk of search volume. What's also interesting is the rising search terms during this period. "Breakout" indicates a change of more than 5000% percent. Hawken's on top, and a lot of people are either trying to find a Wikipedia page about MWO or are new players hoping there is help available.

Economics

As for the economics, we’ve heard some talk about the reduction in C-Bill rewards. As previous replies to the community in the latest ATD have stated, we needed to rein in some of the rewards a bit as they had grown beyond our original thresholds by about 16%. This is normal and common as a game evolves and players become more efficient. The addition of 12v12 also required a tuning pass to lower the earning by around 13% to account for an additional 8 players on the battlefield. The future vision for CB and XP rewards includes a more granular, role based approach currently in design and development. These expanded earnings will reward players directly for performing specific roles, allowing them to distinguish themselves.

Some economic math from our telemetry data:
  • Average match time is 8.4 minutes.
  • Average CB/match is 79,069Posted Image.
  • Average CB/hour is 564,778Posted Image if you only have 1 BattleMech to use.
  • New players can earn 7,981,686Posted Image in cadet bonuses during their first 3.5 hours in addition to between 1-3 million Posted Image in regular game earnings.
It’s important to note that new or inexperienced players will be below this average, while experienced or veteran players will be above this. Player’s with premium time and/or a Hero Mech can expect to better still. New players can earn enough money to buy several light or medium Mechs with just their cadet bonus, or can opt to buy 1 or 2 heavies, or 1 assault. In fact a new player can buy their very first Mech within just a handful of matches, begin upgrading and acquiring new permanent equipment for future Mechs.

If players so wish, they can even increase C-Bill earnings substantially by exiting matches if they are destroyed early, and jumping into a new one.

For example:

If your Mech is destroyed to a roaming band of Jenners early on, you can jump out of that match and into a new one right away – potentially doubling your C-Bills to 1.2 million per hour! This cuts down your time to purchase new Mechs and equipment.

Like game balance, we are constantly evaluating the economic environment and will continue to make small tweaks to keep the economics balanced.

Here's my sad prediction when that Gauss nerf goes live... there will be PPCs, ERPPCs, and more PPCs being fielded.

The 4 PPC Stalker will be alive and well, along with a few more interesting variations.

Any mech that can mount an AC20 and 2 PPC, it may not have the range but its still a nice pinpoint 40 alpha right there.

They did a good job on 3PV compared to MW4. I don't see any major exploits being used and gameplay hasn't changed for me. In MW4 you had a poptart exploit arise from 3PV that completely altered normal mech operation and made it nearly impossible to play from a first person viewpoint. That's not happening or even enabled by MWO's 3PV. So I would recommend the first person sim view to players, but they can do as they want.

Well... I have to say that while that might be true, the fact that I haven't seen any doesn't seem like very good evidence that there have been any significant number of threats. Reductio ad absurdum, by that argument I could theorize that I have a ninja roommate, since I've never seen a ninja in my apartment but if he's a good ninja I'd never see him, and maybe I just haven't noticed any food missing or stuff moved because he's a very good roommate and is scrupulously conscientious about not disturbing my things.

I have seen lots of threats of legal action on the forums, though that's a very different thing.

if you can't get past the fact that things happen even if you haven't seen it with your own eyes, I really don't see this conversation have any further purpose.

Well, the devs kept pushing, and this {Scrap} was finally my breaking point. After another post of more lies (3pv being "successful") and no info what so ever, i decided to try War Thunder, and am having a blast. PGI, if you want to have an inkling of how to ACTUALLY make a game, there is one to download and try. It has a tutorial, and even walks you through setting up your controls (hint, that is how you should actually treat new players).

More to the point, after reading that as a founder who blew $120, i am not your target demographic.... i will act accordingly. if its not my money you want, its my money you won't get. I was considering a Phenix package.. not any more. No MC purchases, nadda.

As a person who literally grew up on Mechwarrior, it breaks my heart to see such rank people kill the franchise like this. But i knew when to move on, and i feel it is getting there. I may play every once in a while, but better games are now getting my attention (and money)..
