This "update" has convinced me that Bryan and the devs are openly hostile to to player base.

"After releasing 3PV we saw an immediate improvement in our target demographic"
"Target Demographic"

Considering that so many people put this game on indefinite hiatus with the release of 3PV, I can only assume that hardcore, simulation, founding players are not their target demographic.

Earlier they explained that the C-Bill decrease was to make it so that players could generate enough C-bills to buy a "top tier mech like the Atlas" in X hours. Unfortunately they forgot to take their bad design into consideration and forgot that all the base mechs in the game suck and require an additional 1.5-7 million C-bills to even make viable. In reality it takes DOUBLE the current earnings to get a top tier mech like the Atlas.

They advocated the "suicide rush strategy" for grinding with

"If players so wish, they can even increase C-Bill earnings substantially by exiting matches if they are destroyed early, and jumping into a new one."

Nothing else needs to be said about ^

They used a huge paragraph that was TL;DR: The forums don't matter, we wont listen to complaints there.

By saying that IGP and PGI share the burden of development they explained that all these horrible choices in development are BOTH parties fault.

GG PGI.

I'm now just waiting on their official launch... see how many burn reviews from the various game journalists will come out. Seems their already attempting to 'buy' off the more followed/popular ones...

Launch Event
What are we launching?

A 100,000,000 C-BILLS question...maybe UI 2.0 if they ram it through QA fast enough but thats it...

What I would really like to see. Is Homeless Bill's thoughts on this. The man is a model of how opinions should be stated and his ideas on balance and such I think are outstanding and border on perfect.

We interrupt this whine to bring you some actual feedback:
I agree with you completely about the threats. It's childish and counterproductive, and I'm glad you guys aren't tolerating it. It's a game FFS.

But you guys totally should have made / should make a separate post addressing threats. It needs its own visibility, separated from the rest of this content and feedback. Putting it in a creative director's update is poor form (in the sense that it's odd, off-putting, unrelated, and against the general tone of the rest of it).

It will actually score fairly well. It is a fun game for the 25 matches the reviewers will play receiving a fair amount of C-bills. They will see only the current product with little knowledge of what it could have been.

And that's what's wrong with it. They will only see the opening stuff, and not see the underlying problem. Therefor writing a positive review ensuring PGI's success with other people that have not yet had to endure what we who have been here the longest have gone through.

with a good bump in new player retention!

how do you measure player retention in a 14 day time frame ?

other wise that that its an ok statement .

it promises CW details at the launch event .

it reinforces that they have metrics that tell them a different story about 3pv . ( i disagree but we are in the dark here so if they say they are feeding us cake their feeding us cake, no matter how bitter and powdery it tastes)

looking forward to ask the dev this week should be some really good q's in there.

I do not like the

MechWarrior Online is constantly evolving and changing. It’s a living breathing project that will never stay still, rather react to players, analytics and external influences, like new trends in gaming.

It gives them to much leeway to turn this into mechs with angel wings, gold ammo, and other typical subpar f2p gaming trends.

It would be nice to see some back bone, stating that mwo is a first person mech combat simulator targeting a player base looking for hard hitting tactical gameplay with an emphasis on fun and strategy .
Rather we get MWO is a game that can or will evolve into anything that we desire based on todays trends in the market.

Well at least its modern .

Im guessing this effort in communication can actually be considered tangible still seems a lot like no info but we cant keep saying they are providing nothing when they actually do have something to show for it .

it all depends on how you value what they say .

All i have to say is that im disappointed that their is no backbone in the vision of MWO as it was presented back in 2011.
i am sorry PGI that you feel you have to appeal to a generic and short attention spanned demographic that routinely game jumps from game to game .

I hope their influence does not ruin this game for me. and i look forward to the features of community warfare .
I hope That PGI would keep in mind they sold a vision that they have strayed from . I hope that in time they will return to that vision after they realize that chasing the general gamer demographic is an exercise in futility.

On a positive note, PGI revived mech warrior, im glad to be a part of it. and i look forward to enjoying this game when it becomes complete.

It would be great to see some of these raging nerds handcuffed and put in jail for making death threats. Can you imagine the reaction when they go off in angst about lasers pew pew and mechwarrior robots in general population, county jail?

In any case, thanks for the update. I am excited about a new UI and CW, as well as Clans. This will all be really good. Thanks a lot for putting 3rd Person View in the game as well, it really helps when traveling. I still use 1st Person for combat but Im glad to be able to switch back and forth between the two.

You know out of all this I think the moderators have done a pretty good job and letting us say what we think. If this was happening on some other forms they'd sanitized the thread and locked it, right Blizzard?

@Nitra

If you read carefully the admission of increased game activity is only specified as their "target demographic."

Based on changes made to this game in recent months the target demographic does not include most of the founders, competitive players, or people looking at this game as a mech sim.

I'm sure right about now PGI is thinking: "Making an MMO would be a whole lot easier without all these player we need to deal with."

I see a lot of validity in your post, and I undestand your point of view. That being said, you have to understand that they will take directions for the game that will expose it to as broad an audience as they can. Sure, some of these will not be your cup of tea, but odds are (going by the "vocal minority" standard) that your direction would have lead to a game aimed at hardcore people (not that I wouldn't like that kind of game). The sad truth is that this is a business, their goal is not to limit their income to pursue philantropical pursuits. They want to make money. And they want to make a good game. The important part is for them to push the core game mechanics out the door, then they can add the bells and whistles that make the game shine.

Now, I DO see many problems, but I think they are workable, that's why I didn't cancel my Phoenix Package. Well, that and I used my 30 days lol. But I honestly think that people are overreacting due to the nostalgia factor and their own passions towards the game. Starting a constructive debate is the best step the community could take because right now, if I was PGI as an entity, I woulnd't want to speak with the community based on the toxic nature of the inflowing communications. Again, don't misunderstand me, I do think that they have some serious Mea Culpa's to do, but I know for a fact that if I was at PGI and I saw feedback like that, my own enjoyment of working on this project would be heavily diminished and then that whole work grind factor would settle in, it reduces productivity and creates apathy. In the end, it reduces the quality of the product.

What you don't seem to be getting, or accepting Lysander is many of us who are upset are Founders, we put money into this game. I spent $120 on faith for a project that I was sold on. We put our money down at that start to fund this thing.

Now that, from all appearances, the game is going in a direction that is contrary to the vision and model that we were sold on, many of us are making the decision not to fund it any further, or even seek refunds on the PP or even our Founders packs.

For many of you if the game is going in a direction that you approve of, feel free to step up and put up the cash to support that vision. I won't begrudge it if you do (I see you have, just making a general statement). I did my share, I stood up early on, only to be disillusioned by the changes I've seen. No more money from me. I just don't want to fund a game that isn't what I expected.

Totally understand that it's a business too, I've been saying that in posts for the past year, and I said back then that 3PV was going to come regardless of what we said because there was too big a "target demographic" for them to ignore. It's upsetting that they are building the foundation of this game on the backs of the Founder group only to turn their backs on us in their march to reach their real "demographic".

The fact that it's a business decision, that they are doing it to broaden their audience, won't help me. I, and I suspect a lot of others feel betrayed and taken for granted. Hence the outcry.

Well, not as much info from the update as i would have liked. but i support the evolving MWO, im excited for CW, my Phoenix Package, and to a lesser extent, UI 2.0. If i had employment during the Founders Offer, i would have got in on that as well. (if offered again i would in a heartbeat) i am happier with the game more now, than during the early beta. I normally do not post in forums, but keep working hard!

How exactly was 3pv a success? I'm still lost on that. Beyond using it to peek over rocks without risking your mech, I've seen no success in it.

The last company that was this openly hostile on their community forums is Bioware and we all know how TOR turned out......

In other news almost every Bioware fan I know hasn't pre-ordered Dragon Age three despite per-ordering DA1, DA2, ME2, ME3, and TOR.

PGI you need to stop, look, what's that sound? The sound of your community lamenting the path you've chosen for the game. Listen to your community, don't be Bioware.

No mention at all about DX11?

That 'hotfix' that helped all the low end pc users screwed those using current generation GFX cards. I've watched my FPS dive from 60+fps on all settings maxed out to 5-15fps no matter the resolution, setting, fresh install, RAM increase, or driver I use.

Been playing MWO from since CB and never had an issue as bad as this, yet despite my support tickets and forum trawling I have found nothing to work around it nor update on how far off a fix is, indeed any recognition that these is a problem.

I want to play and love this game but it shoots itself in the foot at every turn.

Just...sad really. :)
