Finally, X Rebirth is getting ready for release in November.
When I am not piloting a Mech I am piloting some starship most likely. I played the original X- The Final Frontier back in around 2000 and it was good. Each successive game pushed the genre a little further, but X Rebirth looks like the real deal. Seems like it adds elements of Independence War (you pilot a starship with a crew), Freelancer (you go to various starbase locales for jobs and reputation) and puts that in the X-Universe Space universe which has no rules except those you make. Looks very impressive to say the least.

This actually caught my interest. I tried the original X, but it was terrible (forced auto docking with a 10% chance to fail every time? Are you serious?)
This game looks like it could be very good if it's a fully hashed space sim with an open world and optional multiplayer.

loved X-3... pre-ordered this one. This will fill my space sim need until Star Citizen. Even then, I feel X Rebirth will be different enough on its own rights to warrant its existence vs SC.

It is a full space sim - it does not have a multiplayer component however. I have played the X3 games and they are fine in the sense that if you like open world games like Skyrim, the X3 games are basically Skyrim in space. You'll spend endless hours basically doing nothing ogling planets and drifting through asteroid fields, or of course doing actual stuff, like pirating, building stations, or actually playing the single player missions (which you don't have to do).

My problem with the previous X game is that it didn't have a clear starting path like Skyrim, and it had a very, very steep learning curve. I tried doing the intro mission, but the ship I was supposed to follow just flew away, then I had a "Mission Failed" notice stuck on my screen.
I know a lot of people really like it, but it after seeing the "quick start" guides that people posted around the net topped 30 pages, I decided to move on.

I have played X games before. Liked them, although after one or two months, I moved on. A sandbox isn't something I wouild consider in staying forever.
X Rebirth seems interesting, although I would have my hands full in games, with me starting to play Final Fantasy A Realm Reborn and Armored Core Verdict Day.
