Greetings friends,

As all of you know, the Cbill nerf is causing a riot among the forums. I myself, being new to this game(I did however play way back for a little while and then took a break.) I noticed the Cbill gain back then felt good and I enjoyed it. I felt like I was making progress. However, i left the game until more variety was introduced and came back. I always sucked at this game because I'm not very experienced and very jumpy.

I was still getting decent Cbills to enjoy the game's content. I could buy a mech and outfit it in a reasonable time frame. Still cant get myself to do the outrageous "Pilot Tree buy all the variants" {Scrap} because it seems like more effort than it is worth. But I enjoyed playing. I felt rewarded. I felt like I was making progress.

I come back after about a year to check out all the cool stuff. WOW NEW MECHS COOL. I remembered getting around 100k a match(I suck remember this.) Thinking about 1/100th for a mech outfitting sounds good I play a match and blow huge nuts as usual. I get 35K. Bwaaahh Bobby?! What in the hell is this asinine? Im astonished! How am I supposed to enjoy content if I cant even get it? How is a new person in this game supposed to survive after the Cadet Bonus? In my frustration I made 4 new accounts to at least try mechs to see what I liked, as if I could do that in one account in my current skill to pay ratio. I consider 100k a FANTASTIC match. I dont win very often, I dont do very well often. But I cant will myself to get better with the current rewards.

"OH BOY I CANT WAIT TO PLAY IN MY HUNCHBACK FOR 300 MATCHES TO GET ANOTHER HUNCHBACK FOR 300 MORE MATCHES"

So the point of this rant per se is to ask how is someone either unskilled or new to this game supposed to enjoy anything if they cant even get it? I dont want to even support this game if I must MUST pay money to get anything in a reasonable amount of time. Months and months of the same mech just to get the stupid elite perks is asinine. At least in League of Legends you KNEW you could pick up a champion in decent time to spice things up a bit.

That's cute, a random fake account made specifically to rant about the c-bill nerf.

Good stuff.

what he says has some truth to it though.
when i started out (back in 8v8, normal cbills), i already found the going almost unbearably tough. i just stuck it out through the encouragement of some good hearted players, some of whom have become friends. i can just imagine how much tougher the grind is now for beginners. and new players is what this game needs to survive.

I actually use this account normally. My main account has nothing and was named Inappropriate23048230485034234 while I was gone. Id rather not go by that. I dont appreciate the mocking tone either, Dad. If that was your goal, if not I apologize in advance.

Hey Will,

What exactly are you doing in a match? There are things you can do to maximize your earnings. Sure there are kills and damage, but those aren't the end all be all for earning c-bills.

Spotting Assist is earned if you lock on a target who gets hit by LRMs. This you get whether you were on the winning team or not.

Savior kills is a big earner and you get this for hitting an enemy who just shot a buddy who has internals showing somewhere on his mech, and you don't even have to actually kill the guy. You hit him and he later dies you get paid.

If you are on the winning team you get a Salvage bonus. This is dependant on how the enemy mechs were killed; CT destruction gets less, double legging and cockpit kills get more.

If you are on the winning team in a Conquest match, you will get a Resource bonus. This is dependant on how many resources your team gathered.

I try to do whatever I can really. I mostly hide since im a M-Laser boat Hunchie in a sniper PPCGauss world. I try to do solid damage to anyone who gets close to me when brawling happens. I often try to coordinate with teamates on component destruction. I dont often spot since I am quite sure I will die from running around in places I shouldnt.

I get solid assists here and there but I wish I could output more damage. I havnt broken 400.

Good stuff.

Random fake account or not, everything he wrote is true and a serious problem for MWO and its community (especially new players which PGI is apparently trying to get in to the game).

I also think, that many new players (read: of those, who will not uninstall the game), will create several accounts for them. Inflating artificially the number of players.
As a new player, I would create four accounts; one for each mech class. As modules are now simply too expensive for the grind and because of the 2x XP bonus the GXP would be no problem, too.

But hey, PGI could then claim that the numbers of players quadrupled... What a success! Champagne! A fat bonus for Russ, financed by the Phoenix Sales. Yay!

Unfortunately, I really don't know that much about the Hunchback. I think you are piloting a 4P.

Simply reading about where a 4P's hardpoints are, could you find room to add ER Large Lasers in your arms? This way you could engage in the long range fight as well, so over the course of a match you are doing more damage (since you will be doing damage over a longer period of time). It might not be the best suggestion, however the max range on an ER LL is a little further than a PPC. You should be able to fire them at the same time without Phantom Heat Ninja ganking you.

If you have the six medium lasers in your hunch, perhaps you should have two weapon groups for them. Put three lasers in each group so that you can manage your heat better. Again this could end up increasing your damage output over time as you can avoid being idle due to overheating.

I hope this works, but again most of what I know is from old YouTube videos and stuff that has been mentioned in the forums.

I tried two LL's and I didnt like it since I was going at 64kph(BAD). With my Mlas I can go much faster. I do bind my lasers quite well for heat management :3

Hmmm, maybe you should go to the Battlemech Guides and Strategies portion of the forums. There should be tons of topics about Hunchbacks.

OP's got a point. The only thing saving My big fat rear (cbill wise) lately is that I finally decided to activate My founders premium time last month. And even then, on top of a good profitable match I still feel ripped off.

On the upside though, is this:

I don't think this is the final model for c bill earning, only part of it. There's probably going to be several additional ways to earn cash if CW ever actually happens. Things just suck eggs hardcore right now.

As for being new and sucking, don't fret, a lot of us who play this game often have been losing like mad lately too.
Personally, My suggestion is speed = armor in this game. Get yourself something that can do at least 90kph and play harasser/skirmisher for a bit. Let the crumby netcode cover you for a while and rack up those assist points.

On my tablet so can't post the screen shot but I had a game where I killed seven for the first time and got a measly 129k.

You can bust your hump and not get the reward for it.

This game is downright hostile to new players, it gives them crappy trial mechs that they have to use for far too long until they can waste their hard earned c-bills on a mech that they have no idea how to customize because the trial mechs don't teach them that.

Mwo needs to give new players a real mech of their own, just one! That would give them something to customize and learn from while they grind through the losses and c-bill nerfs. let them just pick one mech out of the catalog of mechs. I don't think this would harm the game at all rather i think it would keep players invested longer and the c bill nerf would not be as obvious as it is right now to new players.

Lastly I should say I know this is a f2p game and the devs are just trying to set up a conflict between your time, and your money, as to push you towards paying for mechs and mechbay slots, but that only works if the game is fun and new players wanna keep playing it. The way it is now you either play this game fanatically, read all the patch notes, and follow the devs twitter while throwing money at the screen shouting "support the devs!", or you play for a bit and quit because you are getting crushed by the first group who can't understand why needing to play 40-60 matches to buy a new mech is just not feasible for some folks.

^ What he said. In closed beta, this is what everyone and their dog was screaming for. Give a new player a choice of one free make to start with, something they could call their own, something they could tinker with, expand, change, Etc.

Trial mechs should be just that, for trial testing. If you were thinking of getting a new mech, you could try before you buy.
