As an addendum to my last post, I have a question. To all the people in this thread that have attacked VertigoHC directly, either by accusing him of being unreasonably impatient or being an alt/troll account: is anything in the OP not accurate? It's mostly built on a basis of objectively verifiable facts: the totality of the cadet's bonus is enough for a hunchback with the mandatory upgrades (DHS, endosteel, engine) and not a lot else. Cbill earnings/match are around a half to a third of what they were before 12v12 was introduced. You can debate his opinion about how much he likes these things, but there's nothing factually wrong in the OP.

I wish I knew where I was supposed to put this thread. Maybe a mod would be kind enough to move it. I would have put it in Comstar Focus Group by the description of the board that would have been the most appropriate place for my thread but I cant start threads in there.

The forum structure used to be rather different before it was restructured.. Some hold that it was essentially dismantled to make it hard to post negative things about the game.

I will probably come back after awhile for a second look. I really do hope that this game doesn't go the way of Tribes: Ascend.

I'll stick around long enough to respond to everything I feel warrants a response. The whole purpose of me starting this thread was to give reasons why I uninstalled and hopeful give PGI some feedback. I never said I was leaving forever anyways.

Oh, well, that's good. No sarcasm, either. You're not leaving or forever uninstalling, just taking a break. The OP makes it sound so final! We all take breaks, dude. Some of us go a little longer than two days before we can't take it anymore (OK, that was a little sarcasm :)) but seriously, step away and take all the time you need. We'll see you soon!

Thats a hell of an opinion to have after 2 days lol. I dont disagree that MWO doesnt have many many problems right now (the main being dev that are so out of touch with their community/reality it hurts my brain to even think about it), but that being said i dont think 2 days are enough to form a propper opinion and you are either just randomly jumping on the hate/complain wagon without actually giving yourself enough time to form a propper opinion or you are posting on an alt account just to spread discontent. Either way sir, i wish you did not stoop this low.

So it's easier to just rip into someone posting than to address their concerns, eh. That's a good sign.

I uninstalled today, too. That doesn't mean I won't re-install later; but the game has been terribad for long enough that I moved on to another game, and I haven't even bothered to update MW:O recently, let alone play a game.

The heat scale **** was just too much stupid for me, but I do still check the forums for the latest balance news. I find these Gauss Rifle changes unbelievable. Paul will do anything to add more complexity to the game instead of trying to adjust over-powered things with simple adjustments. He seems to be single-handedly ensuring the failure of MW:O.

Just a little bit of hypocrisy there.

To the OP don't be OP and leave. Things will get better.
Its uneducated hope, but hope nonetheless.

hey all, i know you hardly care but here's where i stand:

I haven't uninstalled but I ve stopped playing mwo for over a week and don't have any plans for launching it again in the near future (i ve dropped 5-10 times daily). Reasons are:

1) i don't like to 12v12 constantly. I would prefer/live with it as an option. 70% of the 12v12 games are stomps, disorganized, filled with chat spam, friendly fire, etc.

2) 2 out of 3 new map releases since i started playing the game, are horrendous (terra therma and alpine, hate em both with a passion)

3) 3pv is really poorly executed and even though I wasn't against it in all the debates, It really is painful to use (both to my eyes and gameplay)

i have 6000+mc in my account and millions of c-bills that i haven't spent in months. In total i ve spent more than 200bucks for this game and I ll be spending no more.

I will come back after launch or if they ever add custom games and or lobbies.

First impressions mean allot.

This. And MWO can be extremely frustrating to everyone new to the game. And you described it in your first post:

At first the new player gets his cadett bonus for the first 20 (?) games. After that, he will have something between 5 and 10 Million CBills on his account. That means, depending on the mech, it's one decked out mech. But only if he knows what to spend the money on. If he simply tries a little bit to find the right build, the money is gone VERY quickly. I remember how many different engines I bought for my hunchbacks, simply to try out, if a 260is worth the extra ton over the 250.

The good scenario would be, that the new player than has a mech he likes. But that still leaves him with an extremely long grind ahead of him. Even if he likes the mech, the chances are quite high, that the grind is too long.

The bad scenario would be, that after he build his mech, he has a mech (loadout or even the mech itself) that the new player doesnt like at all. Do you think, he will start grinding with a mech he doesn't like for buying a mech, he might not like either? Or do you think he will spend real money, just to buy a mech, he might not like and hence blowing the money? I don't think so.

There is no way to try out mechs in an actual game before you buy them. Even in the testing ground you can't test them! There is little chance, that a new player will get a mech he likes which keeps him playing through a horrible grind, without spending a lot of time on the forums, finding sites like smurfys etc.. The only chance that is quite high in my opitnion, is the one him dropping the game.

I've brought in almost a dozen friends to try the game out since going to open beta, and not a one of them made it more than two months before getting bored/frustrated and leaving. Adding in the new C-Bill grind reality, I can totally understand people getting burned out on this game quickly. Which is a shame.

In the past six months or so, I'Ve spoken to about 20-30 persons about MWO. Persons you meet in your daily life, at university, at work or via friends at birthdays and so on.

The good news is: ALL of them have heard about MWO! And most of them have played a Battletech Game in the past and none of them dislikes the idea of piloting a big, heavy mech. Great!

The bad news is: NONE of them are playing MWO. All these people can be put into two groups:
Group "A" said: "I tried it, but it sucked". The reasons had often been the ones I stated earlier in my post, plus the addition of matchmaking problems, or balancing issues. But most of the time it was what I've written earlier.
Group "B" said: "I was interested in it, but everyone who played it said it sucked, so I don't bother trying it".

And that is a big, big problem if you ask me: One dissappointed, frustraded new player who skips the game after a short time equals not only one lost customer, but several.

Why should someone start playing a game of which he heared by friends, mates or people he knows that it sucks? Why should he start a game, none of his friends are playing? Why should he keep going at a game, which he can't get his friends to play with him?

I know, that balancing "giving stuff out for free" and "getting people to pay for stuff to keep the money rolling in" is hard. But it's going into the wrong direction. Imho, it only got worse for new players. And that is a bad thing for the game.

I know the majority is probably thinking what I'm thinking, but damn, this needs to be said. This is one of the most boneheaded posts I've read in quite a while.

I'm not paying for slop just because its got BT slapped over it. When a game is bad, its bad. If something betrays the expectations you have of a franchise you love, then it betrays it for you, no two ways about it. The opinion of others isn't even relevant. You're going to put in more money so you can watch a developer you don't agree with ruin the franchise you love more? Seriously?

As for the OP's point, all I've got to say is that I've personally embarrassed myself telling my buddies repeatedly over the last year that "don't worry, the new UI will be here soon!", or "im sure they'll add CW soon!", or "they'll add clans eventually...near future...-ish...." or "they'll fix that soon....i hope....", and that PGI has constantly failed to...well....support my support. Doesn't help when they randomly go on the forum and read about how some key personnel "go on vacation". My opinion about MWO at this point should be quite obvious.

Look! It is becoming obvious that the MWO game we all want in all its complexity is a major undertaking. I think PGI was underfunded and understaffed. I truly believe that the people at PGI have been working long and hard and have done a number of very good things. After all, I am a PVE player who gave MWO my first real try at PVP (only being a diehard BT fan caused me to try it at all). Now, there is enough here that I have actually invested quite a bit of real money and lots of time in this game. I too hope things will go better altho I have to keep reminding myself that this is Beta. I even bought the Overlord Phoenix package - and I am not a particularly good player. I just love the mechs. I worry tho about the launch, can't help it. I agree with the former posters who give best wishes to the OP and hope he returns, with his checkbook. We NEED new players willing to pony up to play. Insults will only insure they probably won't be back. I also wish PGI would take a look at the Star Citizen game being developed (only my 2nd PVP type game), not for anything but the PR (player/company interaction). Openness and honesty and ASKING for players to help, telling them stuff beforehand and asking for input and then Listerning to what is said. If something is wrong, say so honestly and up front. For us diehards, try to be good to new players and help PGI smooth out the rough times.

I say this as someone who bought into the founder's pack. Who was registered with closed beta and hoped for a invite up until the founders program was made available and bought in.

I have to say I completely agree with the OP.

The grind on this game is particularly rough. I've dropped twice in the last two months. Both times I was disappointed to see similar problems to what was already going on months ago. Even better is when it's an old problem that got resolved and then became a problem once again.

This is exactly where I and others who have started to give up on MWO were afraid the game was going. The game has fun elements and it has the seeds of something great. Every time a complaint like the OP points out was raised? There's the canned response.

"Just give it some time."

I gave this game time. I was in august, when we had net code issues among others. Then September, October, November, and finally in December and January we see some addressing of problems that had been persistent or worsening for months.

Now? Some of those problems are creeping up again. People like me have given this game close to a year to fix some of the underlying problems in its design. It's either spun its wheels pointlessly or actually made a step or two forward only to take as many or more backwards.

I want this game to succeed. I want it to be fun. But the fact is that PGI continually lies about their stances and oaths they make to players. "That was our position at the time..." <- this should sound familiar to the older members here.

As far as I'm concerned I don't think PGI are going to do this game justice. They're operating on a development cycle that you'd need a team that's a minimum doubled size from the one they have with -very- good management to get content produced at a good pace.

They've pushed back deadlines again, and again, and again. Please, go ahead and insult me, tell me to "get out if you don't like it." I'm saying this as someone who really had and still somewhat has hopes for this game... This game has had more than enough time to fix underlying issues and management decisions that are -still- plaguing it.

If this game can't hook people for more than a week? Or that it's only appeal is the BT Lore? Then how the hell is it going to hold onto any new customers and avoid bad press? When the game goes release officially it'll actually start getting a metacritic score. If this game doesn't start making vast and sweeping improvements in a short time. That will not be kind, either from players or from critics who spend any length of time playing.

The "Beta" term won't be able to shield this game from the criticisms many players have leveled against it.
