No links describing this stuff, wait for launch, there MIGHT, MAYBE, be such information in-game or on the site somewhere then. Maybe.

When you earn enough C-bills to buy your own mech you will be able to modify it. There are many levels of limitations on what you can do to your mech (hardpoint restrictions, engine restrictions, weight & space restrictions, etc)

The community has generated several online mechlab tools to help you pre-build a mech or just experiment. Please check out Smurfy's mechlab where you can safely experiment with different mechs and builds and experience the construction rules.

XP is pretty simple, but nothing you need to worry about until after you've bought your own mech.
  • Earn XP for your mech you play in
  • spend it in the pilot lab on the skill tree
  • Complete all the basic skills (8 in total).
  • Purchase two more mechs of the same chassis.
  • Complete all the basic skills for those mechs to unlock the ability to buy Elite skills.
  • Completing 8 of 8 basics Completing the elite tier also doubles all the basic skills for those mechs.
There's some more details about what to do after Elite, but you can work on that later.

What do you mean by "to edit" a mech? You can change its loadout, and give it upgrades, but it will cost you in-game money (C-Bills). You can also change its color scheme, but that can cost you real-life money (MC).

You can give a mech a name when you buy it. Someday a new User Interface, UI 2.0, will be released. Rumor has it that it will finally allow you to re-name your mechs at any time.

when customizing a mech you need to go to the loadout tab and drag off or sell the existing weapons, some things are very costly to change the expensive 'must have' is usually double heat sinks, you pay alot to add them and alot to go back to singles.when trying to open up more weight do the structure first.

structure armor and heatsinks cost a small fortune to switch between because you cant sell them back to recoup some of your cbills,

weapons dragged off go into your inventory and can be used on future mechs, or be sold off at half the price you paid.

No it doesn't - completing 4/4 Elite efficiencies for a single variant gives you the 2x Basic efficiencies for that variant.
