I think it would be easier to balance the game if pgi ignored the time line and used newer tech.
New armor could be used to make a rock paper scissors system. A new light ballistic weapon could help lights and mediums. ER medium lasers would be a welcome in between LLs and MLs. Improved Narc would make narc worth using. Tech could be released in any order that helped the game. Add tech that is easy to add and helps balance first, then add the more difficult to balance tech later.

They're already dissearguarding it.

And more tech will make it more difficult to make the game balanced, not easier.

PSA: you shouldn't try to post in the forums while wearing oven mitts.

I'm part of the 3025 crowd so.

Totally disagree with your opinion

the fewer weapon systems the longer they have to actually create a balanced game

Agreed, MWO should have started the timeline just before the 4th succession war. Fewer weapons, fewer systems, would have been easier for them to balance, and then as they got that system all balanced out and working as they want it to, they could THEN accelerate the timeline as needed to get more weapons and features in.

As it is now, it's obvious they've bitten off WAY MORE than they can chew and the end product is suffering for it. Especially with the number of people they have working there that it's obvious have ZERO CLUE as to what BattleTech is and have never EVER played any other BattleTech sim. Some of the 'out of the gate' mistakes they've made, like designing this game from the get go without a fully defined heat affects table in place. MORONIC! Or having weapons with ranges BEYOND the original TT maximums. FOOLISH! Or having to enforce a 'hard point' system. WTFBBQ IS THAT?!?!

Anyway, I wouldn't mind if they "rewound" to that point and pulled weapons and features to balance out the original TT basics and THEN move forward...

Who needs the clan invasion?

I like your moxie, but, we want to pare down the options they have to work with so that they can focus more easily on balancing the entire game. I'm pretty sure that in 3145 the weapon options are about 4 times what they were in original TT...

Well, the upcoming Griffin (GRF-3M) & Wolverine (WVR-7K) are from 3052.

And...say hello to a couple more oversized 55 tonners with low mounted arms and suboptimal hardpoints.

Disregarding the timeline doesn't mean they have to add every feature from future years of battletech. Just pick and choose what will help game balance or create interesting gameplay.

We've already got fairly lore-unfriendly matches with all factions rolled into one. Outside of the fabled community warfare, does it even matter?

The more weapons you have, the more options you have to defeat XX "op" weapon.

explaines it better by taking the LoL aspect of it.

As for the timeline, yes we are past the clan invasion v1.0 but we have v2.0 in a few years so we could still see clans come at the right time. Also with that, everyone at the time will have clan tech, so no retractions would be needed since EVERYONE will have it, still expensive as hell, but available.
