The linear progression through the battletech timeline was one of the facets of MWO I was excited about when I bought my founder's pack. Of course, I know better now, that it was just another false promise...
As for Light Autocannons... even though they arn't perfected until 3068, they are already being prototyped in the 3050s. I do not think it would be unreasonable for PGI to release "prototype" variations of weapons. For example a "prototype light AC/2" could be lighter than an AC/2 but heavier than an actual light AC/2.

Other lightweight versions of said ACs they give up range as a trade off... 10 Years away though.

It is to bad that timeline is more important than game play.

^ Can I hear a Muthafrikkin' witness!
They don't have community play or faction play or any of that in any decent level at anytime in the foreseeable future, so why not bring in the stuff that really would improve play?
Mech mortars are another potential;ballistic weapon )sort of ballistic/missile) Some non guided ballistic path weapons would be a load of fun in this game, both small and large ones.

You don't need MG Arrays, current multiple machine guns act the same way already. (they all fire at the same spot)

It is worth noting that machine-gun arrays ensure that the machine guns all hit the same target - they are not simply four gun mounts.
So there is nothing wrong cannon-wise with the innersphere being able to fit two machine guns onto a ballistics hardpoint in 3049...
I actually calculated out DPS, ammo usage and other balance issues in this thread:
