Highlander (90 tons)
Spoiler

Info taken from the link below, where it'd be a lot easier to read:
http://mwo.smurfy-net.de/ Just scroll down to the Highlander line.

Specifically:
The 733 makes the best missile boat.
The 733P is the designated energy boat.
The 733C is everyone's favorite brawler due to the ability to mount an AC/20 or twin Ultra AC/5s.
The 732 makes a good "in-betweener" that has a mix of the qualities of the other Highlanders.
And finally the Heavy Metal has 3 arm-mounted energy weapons to go with the ballistics, between this and the slightly faster engine the Heavy Metal is certainly the most agile of them all. It's a shame everyone turns them into PPC + Gauss poptarts and stand still as if a mole on whack-a-mole.

The 732 can be fit to work in any role basically, not really a brawler, not really a missile boat, not really an energy boat. So you can fit it however and it will generally do the job if properly fit for what you want to do.

Highlanders are generally used as snipers, because they have jumpjets and can run lots of good sniper weapons. I don't snipe much, so I can't give many tips on that.

AFAIK the main ones for sniping are the 732 and 733C. The 732 lets you run 3 PPC/ERPPC + Gauss and the 733C can run 2xUAC/5 + 2xPPC, both of which are deadly.

EDIT: Incidentally, if you run a sniper Highlander, all your weapons are on your right side. Torso-twisting will let you take incoming shots on your left side and keep your weapons firing longer.

In-betweener, a jack of all trades.

It can fulfill any role the others can but not as well as they can. Much like a Hunchback 4SP and how it can fulfill the role of LRM-boat, but not as well as the Hunchback 4J can. The 4SP can also mimic the 4H (sans 1 energy and 1 ballistic) and the 4P (sans 4 energy) with reasonable ease. The only Hunchback it can't imitate is the 4G.

Another good example is how the Catapult C1 can mimic a K2 or an A1. It won't be as good at either design because it won't have as many launchers as the A1 or the ballistic hardpoints of the K2 but the C1 can get the job done and act like them.

Another solid example is the Pretty Baby. It's a cross-breed of the Awesome 8V and the 9M which gives it a jack of trades title in my book. While superior in its own way, the Pretty Baby when strictly used in the capacity of the 9M (light hunter, high speed assault mech, hit and run) will fail in many aspects where the 9M is clearly better suited.
When used exclusively in the capacity of an 8V (ranged support that softens enemies with LRM fire before making the kill at medium to long range), the Pretty Baby again fails to compete as the 8V can churn out more missiles in larger volleys as well as outperform the PB with energy weapons.
When treated as both an 8V and a 9M at the same time, the Pretty Baby begins to show its true potential. A hit and run anti-light and anti-medium support mech. Where the Pretty Baby excels is its high speed while churning out LRMs and support fire at range while managing excellent heat efficiency. While its anti-light capabilities may not be as great as the 9M, the Pretty Baby performs well enough to usually make the enemy light sweat. Its high inertia, greater than that of all other mechs currently, is both its bane and its greatest strength. It can climb places that even Highlanders jumping into the air cannot, still fully capable of climbing the pillars of Tourmaline even after the new movement code, and capable of climbing slopes of up to 60-ish degrees by use of zig-zagging maneuvers and a 360 engine. So imagine what it could do with a full 400 rated engine! Nothing freaks an enemy out like having an 80 ton Awesome literally fall from the sky beside them and blast them to heck and back.
