If you were to choose between one AC5 with two tons of ammo and 4 MGs with two tonns of ammo total, which would you choose?

2 tons of AC5 ammo though is... barely enough... I run a couple dual AC5 builds and even 5 tons of ammo has trouble getting me through some fights.
On the other hand my Spider 4MG carrying Spider is usually ok with 1 ton of ammo as long as I don't hold down the trigger the whole fight.

Wrong question -or, at least you missed an important detail: which mech?
There are only 3 mechs which can mount 4mgs, cicada, spider and DD jager. For the first two, take the mgs, you'll do more damage and have enough ammo. 2tons of ac5ammo give you what, 60 shots? Assume you'll miss 50% ( difficult to aim at 140kph) thats 150 damage spread everywhere.
On the jager, it depends on playstyle and the qestion is not 1 but up to 4 AC5 or 6 mg.

You forgot about the Jager's creepy, older brother the Cataphract 4X. It has a laser in it's um... well lets see if the cockpit is on the head I guess it would be a heatpit laser? Yeah, I guess there's a reason we don't talk about him much....

I love them.
for examle an MG has a dps 1
ac5 does 3.3 damage per second
each ac2 does 4 dps and it also has a great range

personally i prefer ultra AC5s and NO they do not count as AC5s there is quite a difference in using them

I'd use the 4 machine guns first. I can't forsee a situation where I don't downgrade an AC 5 into an AC 2.
