I was thinking of calling them "Why am I" and "Bigger than a Heavy?" respectively

Old tech my friend. Same reason why a 50's Chevy was bigger and heavier than a modern one. And more classy :D.

Nice try but your analogy is wrong, a 58 impala weighs 3400-3600 lbs. They swelled up to 4100lbs in the the mid 90's and are back down to 3600-3800 depending on options. A 69 camaro weighs approximately 3400lbs depending on drivetrain, while a 2013 ZL1 camaro weighs well over 4100 lbs. They made have been dimensionally larger in SOME cases, but lack the 1000 feet of copper wire, insulation, computers, airbags, navigation, etc etc, The mustang is currently 8 inches longer than it was in the early 60's and considerably wider.

So ya it doesn't make sense and devs have already mentioned a scaling pass in the works

The griffin should stay but rename the Wolverine for sure. That crappy college team doesn't need anything giant and stompy named after them. GO STATE

Scaling needs to be somewhat flexible. Mechs of the same tonnage can vary widely in bulk and height. The notion that a 50- or 60-ton mech should always be less bulky or shorter than a 65- or 70-ton mech is inaccurate. The triplet Shadow Hawk, Wolverine, Griffin mechs have always been relatively tall with bulky armor shells, especially the Wolverine.

As someone who attended both colleges at varying times and finished his degree at Tech, all I've got to say is Go M State Tech! and down with OSU. Lol

Otherwise leave the mech names alone. I see no reason to change them. You can do so in your mech lab anyway.

Agreed. Lets just hope there is no such thing as a "Buckeye" mech.

I'm all for changing the name of the Griffin. How do you named something "Griffin" and not give it Jump Jets? Thats like if Apple came out with a game console and called it the "Sea Manatee".

I dunno, if the clans finally make their way into the game I will take a Wolverine against them as often as possible. And I'll paint it in Comstar colors, because oTHuw 39_heil^&+ [Transmission Interrupted]

The problem with not basing size on the weight class of the mech in a game like this is that weapons fire can be directed at a single component of a mech reliably. Having mediums the size of heavies works in the TT because hit location is purely random.

Since we don't have random hit locations in this game, it necessitates that mech size scale with mech weight class. Other wise you end up with mechs like the Kintaro which is larger or the same size of most heavies without the armor and firepower to support having that size.

Foxfire, I understand the concern. But I think differences are good. See my longer answer here:http://mwomercs.com/...86#entry2714786
