Scrapping ghost heat and reducing the heat capacity to 30 would probably be the best change this game has ever seen.

Example:
http://mwo.smurfy-ne...c1b04dbfefe2024
25 heat per alpha
3.43 heat dissipated per second (elited)
about 7.3s to dissipate heat of an alpha
71.76 heat capacity (elited)

*I have no idea how to format the charts on here*

sec dam heat
0 35 25/71.76
4 70 36.38/71.76
8 105 47.66/71.76
12 140 58.94/71.76
16 175 70.22/71.76
at this point it takes ~7.3 seconds to alpha again without overheating
175 damage in 16 seconds with non-stop alphas

reducing heat capacity to 30:
sec dam heat
0 35 25/30
6 70 29.42/30
at this point it takes ~7.3 seconds to alpha again without overheating
takes 29 seconds to do 175 damage

The key point here is that mechs are forced to restrict their firing rate to their heat dissipation much quicker.
Reducing heat capacity to 30 solves most problems with the high alpha meta and mechs being destroyed too fast.
You can fire 3 PPCs or 2ERPPCs or 4 large lasers at once but you might overheat and you'll have a long wait before you can do it again.
Chain firing would be likely more common helping to reduce the "convergence problem."
Afterwards weapons can be further balanced with heat, cycle time, range, velocity, etc.
We would also have a heat system that everyone understands without having to look up charts on 3rd party websites.

*I know I forgot to add heat containment to the 30 capacity but it's not a big difference*

See also: Koniving's series of threads on the matter for ages. Unfortunately, PGI has refrained from commenting on it all along.

Thing is, they don't have to go this far. Just tweak the heat sink settings: Reduce the heat cap per sink, increase dissipation per sink. Even if we don't go right to 30 right off the bat, simply reducing it so we don't get 60+ heat caps would make an enormous difference.
