If you take a look at the new screenshot on the home page that features a Firebrand you can see a giant missile that looks like it's being fired out of the autocannon barrel.

Since autocannons shooting missiles is dumb and the thing is stupidly big compared to the gun anyway, it got me thinking: why put this in the shot at all? Is it a sneak-peek of what the Arrow IV will look like?

it's a Roman Candle. They are making a fire works display for the "Launch Celebration".

Nothing to see here. Move along citizens.

Or it's a NARC... Or it's neither as technically a Firebrand doesn't have any missile slots.

More than likely it was an over eager designer and QC didn't catch the mistakes.

The screenshot is old by now, been used in other places. The missile is a known thing. Firebrand doesn't have any missile hardpoints. The devs explained that apparently ballistics actually use the missile model, they're just moving too fast that you can't tell.

I remember way back, when the AC's fired at rather abysmal velocities, you could fire an LB-10X and easily see 10 flaming missiles.

It was kind of badass though.

The missile is not being shot out by that Jagger but is over it. Its an optical illusion. Look closer

That is, infact, what the ACs ingame fire. Assume they're APDS or something if you need to rationalise.

Yep, if you're quick, you can see that the autocannon projectiles do look like missiles... which I guess makes some sense.

Autocannon shells look like that, not missiles. PGI simply hasn't changed the graphic for it and saved time by using the missile.

Interesting that autocannons do shoot missiles. And it does make sense as a time saving measure.

I just thought the thing looked so out of place (mostly because of its size) that it would have been removed unless someone wanted us to see it.

In game, the AC shell do look like a rocket. Not a bug, working as intended.

"Did", actually.

Just look at the launch trailer, about 1:16 in, there is a slow-mo of a Jagermech's shot which is now a proper shell. They sometimes fix these minor details and don't bother telling, like the proper alignment of BJ's ACs that came a patch or two after the mech itself.

I'll bite. That's the autocannon shell for that make of autocannon. Since there are a very high number of makes for each individual autocannon, there are an equal number of shell designs. An APDS design would look like an MWO missile, so...

Yeah, they've not bothered. But throwing up a TRO/Manual picture and saying that any MWO game that has AC rounds that don't look like that is either using a placeholder or somehow doing it wrong is just...daft.

I would definitely have a use for the Arrow IV if PGI were to let us loose with it. Perhaps it could be a Christmas Present for us?
