I wasnt begging. I look forward to the game. I can see that point of view and how it could appear so will just drop it.

In a chat channel they are doing some trivia games for beta keys thing. The whole thing is just giving me sinking feeling. I like devs with a sense of fun but this appears to be heading into something different.

So, I'll just happily wait as Im not as confident as I was before in the community.

Why? Because you're whining about a joke? Not particularly. I didn't suspect you 'fell for the troll', just that you're annoyed enough at a joke to post a whine about it. I also didn't 'assume' you didn't do your research. Though I think you trying to frame this as you forwarding an opinion of other people (No no no, I'M not upset about it, but I can see how other people would be upset and THAT'S JUST NOT RIGHT) is at least an acknowledgement that it's not the most mature stance to take.

Frankly, anyone who views the fact they aren't in a beta test for a game they're interested in is the absolute worst kind of fan and if it drives them away good freaking riddance.

Regarding the joke: I don't mind that the beta pool is small. I dont mind pending. I someones feel embarrassed for the whining posters in the forums that really badly want a key and express it. But when the developers then start to poke that audience of theirs with a stick... perhaps they should word it another way?

Also, no - for a developer, its NEVER "good riddance." Few players = fewer dissemination = lower server population/higher queues (all in all = LESS $$$).

Truly, the only "good riddance" is hackers, and unavoidable incompetent players that can ruin another's game experience. That means incompetent players are a good thing by the way! As long as you can pick your allies and it doesn't hurt you, consequently causing YOU to leave out of frustration.

Trivia games things.....oooh oooh I want in, send a link.......I will get more puppies and kittens ready to sacrifice for a beta key. Sorry for the abuse though man, I think this forum has a rather less than serious attitude and I quite like it.

Speaking as a player, not a dev. *I* don't want them here. And if that's enough to make them LEAVE THE GAME FOREVER, I'm pretty sure that there isn't much a developer *could* do to retain them in the first place anyway. If making a joke (We're only sending out 4 beta keys this wave, good luck. Haha, just kidding, it's the same we've been doing for a while.) Is enough for a player to ditch the game, then something was going to some time. That's not even remotely poking them with a stick. I'm not worried about retaining them--particularly since if they're seriously that kind of person retaining them was barely an option--and I, personally, am happy to see them go. End of story.

I have a hard time understanding the sense of entitlement some posters have.

You're not some special person. You're just a name or a number. They're being chosen at random as the developers work on stabilizing and expanding their servers. This is normal for every beta I have ever been a part of. Slowly expand in waves making sure everything is working accordingly. Then when you get a lot of people in and everything is going nicely, do some stress testing and see when exactly things start to break.

I don't see what's odd. I don't understand why they should be doing anything different.

actualy i agree with the trolling comment Trolls ruin games for alot of people me included so the Devs encurageing this behavior is very undesirable in my eyes but seeing as this is the only time i see it in a headline im not gunna worry about it but i do belive it should not become practice as i leave games with excessive trolls i play games for fun not to be trolled non-stop. im thick skinned but when i see people trolling insesently it kills the fun for me and alot of times i see it cross to harassment. i will also note that alot of games crumble and fall due to trolls. that said lets move on and look forward to a fun MWO experiance.

Sounds like unwarranted elitism on your part. They provide easy targets for you and $ for the developers... not sure why you'd want anyone to leave that isn't ruing your experience while simultaneously supporting the developers.

Personally I would welcome all comers, even the incompetent ones.... A wide range of skills in the mechwarrior community will just improve the simulation. After all no war is ever only fought by elite troops... otherwise they wouldnt be elite. It is shepparding the weaker team members through that is the mark of a good team and makes for the most satisfying experience, either in victory or defeat.

There's a difference here. They released 500 keys, the statement that it was 4 originally is a joke. Harmless fun at the anxious tester's expense, but harmless.

if you are truly a deve i do not respect you opinion on this point you basicaly just stated you dont care about your customers. re-think what you just said because it is not a positive view you are giving to player base. the person may be overly upset but say in a simplified manner i dont care about my players and fans is strait up wrong and can give the company a bad rap. every basic business student knows this even before graduation.

Because I prefer active, engaged players who enjoy themselves to self-entitled whiners that are likely to scream and whine the second they start losing, or clutter up the forums with incessent ******** about how something is ruined forever because they're not treated like they're a special snowflake? You seem to keep conflating self-entitled jerks to new players. I have no beef with new players. I have no beef to people learning--hell, if I have tips to impart I'll be happy to help them out. I don't play this game to stroke my own ego, so whether or not they're 'easy targets' is irrelevalent to me as long as the game's enjoyable.

If Pirahna puts out a good game, it'll be fine. That's all I'm worried about in the end. They don't need to stroke the delicate egos of a few people who would get worked up because they're not in a beta test to the point where they have to walk on eggshells. They won't fail because of that. You're blowing a simple joke and a little levity way out of proportion.

^ This...

There are some folks that just need to go outside for awhile, maybe play with their kids for a couple hours, sit on the couch and watch a baseball game with a nice cold beer in your hand...

Get out of the basement... Stop refreshing the page over and over and over and over... It's most likely still going to say Pending...

The developers don't owe any of us a special invitation because we have been playing BattleTech and Mechwarrior games for decades. In fact, I'm pretty sure it's the long time BT people who will turn out to be the biggest, whiniest, pain in the rear people in the community for the Devs.

Also, I personally LOVE Paul's trolling of all you frantic folks who get so worked up because they didn't take YOUR internet resume into consideration. Because everything on the internet is true, you know...

Of course annoying forums posts are well... annoying. Maybe we agree on most things but text communication is leading to miscommunication? That is where temporary forum bans come in.. where player blocking come in. As long as they are not cheating, or griefing, it makes no sense to hope a player departs.

If you want to agree to disagree, that's fine with me. I'd say personally that I am perfectly willing to say 'Good riddance' to a guy who takes his ball and goes home over something silly, whatever that is. I could go into excessive detail why--the long and the short of it is that the internet is an echo chamber and they have a way of amplifying their discourse to levels beyond other legitmate greivances. (Since you might ask what might constitute a legitmate greivance--getting double charged about it and complaining at a lack of action is an extreme example. A new mech design so pervasive that you start teams with 8+ of the same mech would be an issue--hell, you know what? A new player feeling overwhelmed when he gets into the game and feels that he can't learn the ropes because he's being curbstomped is legitimate, and you're probably going to see lern2play).But the guy who is upset because of a very mild gag? (Only 4 people into beta today. Just kidding! More then that). Please, don't let the door hit you on the way out. You are very likely not going to be the fun kind of player, and I will not mourn your departure, even if it ephmerally somehow improves Pirahna's success (as I seriously doubt it effects it much).

One thing I can say happily. This forum has good people, as this has been one of the more mature, polite, online forum arguments I've witnessed.

But I think we can all agree..
