Getting numbers on line at the same time across different timezone can be nasty. An in game scheduling utility, where a battallion or lance commander can post a fight time and people sign up for it, would be handy. This would include Lance organising.Similarly keeping track of Who did show up, would aid Merc Unit Management. This would also facilitate inter Merc Unit Challenges. Empty spots could be filled by casualplayers at time of engaging into combat at the Battallion CDRs discretion. (should going in undermanned gain bonuses?)

The other option is randomly assigning individual units and lances aka WOT/s; this should also be available for purely casual players.

An ability to schedule conflicts should certainly be useful. The organised nature of 'Mech operations doesn't sit well with the random violence of normal deathmatching so it'll be interesting to see what MWO provides us with.

Maybe allow Merc outfits to be "followed", in that casual players can "follow" a specific outfit and they'll be given updates on when that unit is going into battle short of members. A casual player would get a notification, and be allowed to drop into one of the empty slots and support their favorite Merc unit. The commander of the unit could have several options for managing something like this: mostly in the form of accepting/denying a player that wants to follow the unit, or upgrading the player to a full member.

I hope that this item doesn't come from the Global Agenda playbook. Their AVA challenges are similar in having to capture and hold territories, then developing them over multiple days. They have different types of units too, where even if you don't have territory you can still attack/defend for units that do (aka mercs).

Except the playtimes for the different maps were 2030-0130. Every day. You have to have at least a squad (or preferably 2-3) on for around 5 hours a night to hold territories. If you don't have enough guys on, then another team could just swoop in and take everything. They ran in two week cycles which wasn't bad, so one map was saturday/sunday and the other map was during the week. You start the first week and finish after the second week before it resets.

But.. the play times sucked.

MWL's planetary league was .. busy, but it could be controlled. Each unit could only participate in so many engagements at once, so if you wanted to hit an Empire but they had 4 active defenses already, you couldn't. The empire could also contract out defenses to Mercenary units, so if the Empire had a few allies they could schedule out games to the contract pilots.

These still followed regular match making where you set a date and time based on who attacked who and who could suggest first. Usually attacker had preference or date suggestions, where as ladder games give defender the option to suggest. I would like to see challenges answered with multiple choice date picks.

And I'd like to see the history of all these engagements save somewhere. :)
