Stick-and-move is the name of the game near as I can tell. Think of mechs as big metal sharks...as soon as they stop moving, they die. This one tactic alone has upped my game.

Try not to run a Jenner with more than 3 JJ. You can climb 15 meters with that set up.
Speed is life in a Light. This has been a given since we started, sooooo...
Cravens are out of style, esp since BAP is a hard counter.
Role warfare is dead. It may come back in another guise during Community Warfare. Maaaybe
As is the Economy. We got some new mystery currency called Loyalty points for CW which I am wondering wth that does. Anyway.

It'll be a discount on certain makes and models from a given nation …

I can tell you that it is not the game. I do not get legged that often actually. Light mechs seem to be aiming for legs more, but I usually die from torso coring. Most of my own kills are headshots or attempted headshots that hit the torso.

I don't go for legs unless they're red armor or the armor is stripped. Far easier to just hit CT or ST.

You've been gone from the game for 6 months and you expect no changes and that you haven't lost any skill in playing? Come on. If you want to improve, learn about the changes, gonna take a while to find them all since they aren't really centralized. Play for a few weeks and you will regain lost skill. Until then, welcome to the meat grinder noob.

I'd also advise against running lights if you are having issues with survivability. The days of people freaking out when they saw a jenner because they couldn't hit it are long gone (replaced by spiders, but they're really not that bad). Also, you keep mentioning role warfare, well the "role" of light mechs isn't to go toe to toe with anything bigger than they are and come out on top. If you want to play to the strengths of a light, then grab a tag, some jump jets and a big engine.

I'd also advise against pugging. There are more organized groups dropping 4 mans than ever before. Join a unit or at least hop on the NGNG or comstar teamspeak servers.

Just seems like an arms race now, and nothing but a "who alpha-strikes the CT first wins" game. It's really sad. I can't see where role warfare fits anymore. Lights are useless now, or at least, I can't seem to do anything good with them anymore and they used to be pretty fun to play.

Lights are not useless, not by a long shot. You just have to be patient. You cannot take on all 12, just like you couldnt all 8. And capping is much slower, so solo cap work is dead for the most part....but you are far from useless. You still maintain your mobile advantage, and still dictate many aspects of the fight. I would say lights are as viable as ever, though other classes are suffering from the alpha game, as you indicate. As a light, I should rarely be alpha struck! keep running, dont run right at them, and at least some of the damage should be mitigated.

Jenners are still great - you have firepower and speed. find a straggler, or kill off the beat up ones. It can be done. 12v12 means more targets!

I have to ask, did you use to run light mechs like the Jenner before you left and is the letters HSR new and baffling... If so i can understand your confusion. Lights used to get a little bit de-synched and a real hell to hit as a result (it was/is called lag-sheild in lack of a better name.) that is a lot less severe now and thus you get hit A LOT more, as one light pilot to another i advise you to hang back and wait until the battle is all good mixed up before you join in. And always make sure to keep moving.

LOL! Not even close. The best tank in the game is a light. I have seen Spiders completely tie up half a dozen Assaults before, while the Spider's team picks them apart. People cannot resist the illusion of an easy kill, and divert all their attention to the Spider pilot.

Well played lights are extremely hard to kill because you usually can't nail them with high damage weapons (ACs, gauss, PPC) and you cannot sustain fire on them long enough for lasers to do very much. Lights only suck if you are slow (which means your build is bad, get a better engine noob) or if you sit on your *** in them and try to play them like a Heavy.

Heh. That's what I get for down-grading my light's engine. Was trying out a custom build for giggles.

That's what I've been doing since last night, and after upgrading my Jenner build, I'd say I'm getting pretty good at it now all things considered. I just finished a match (pugs) where I was the second to last to die, had 2 kills, 1 assist, and did 340 points of damage. I was top in damage actually. The reason I got killed was that my teammates abandoned me to capture a point while I was fighting off 3 enemies at once and they managed to blow my right torso (got an XL).

Bottom line, you're all right. I just needed more patience I guess. I was just taken aback by all the changes but now it's not so bad anymore. I still hope Role Warfare comes back in some form though.

Good luck in your Jenny, I'll see you around the Light-Mech bar with my Atlas Scout.

Yup sounds like you are back in the groove. Bigest thing I had to learn and I still forget on a less regular basis is when to disengage i.e. run like a little girl. Pick off the straglers. hit and run anything to make yourself annoying and make those Elmer Fudd's go chase the Wabbit is what you want to do.

Nah Team Work is still where it is. After all Team Work is what is all about when Elmer Fudd chases the Wabbit or for that matter when Alice goes down the Wabbit hole since Bugs Bunny always wins and Alice found all sorts of bad things in there. Its all about flanking the red team when your side pushes or pulling those Elemer Fudds into a trap.

i play pugs almost exclusively. Here are some things to know as a light

1) solo capping is dead - dont do it unless late in the match and you have high health. It takes too long, and it flags where you are.

2) hit stragglers with other lights, or wait for things to get mixed up. Be finisher, not a starter, of fights. you can still recon, but with 12 other mechs, you can run into a light pack and that is death.

Overall, my K/D and damage have increased with 12v12.
