I noticed the old thread was deleted. Has this issue been solved or was it just buried?

Buried, still immediately crashes after you click play and then the launcher is stuck at "Please Wait."

The amd avast issue isn't even listed in http://mwomercs.com/...7-known-issues/ . its like this doesn't exist to them.

It's blatantly obvious they don't consider the percentage of users it affects to be worth their time. But hey they have the time to push out a new Hero Orion mech for more moola.

It's been moved to support workarounds, but here is a link to the original thread below, only found it by the link in my forum profile from a past post. That thread has the only workable workaround we have, it's very unprofessional of PGI not to have a fix asap considering it's disabling a feature of our anti virus app!

Just because there is a community work around does not make the bug fixed or addressed. Fix the game and don't delete the thread till it's patched.

I agree this needs to be fixed, however, it isn't necessary to disable any features of avast to correct the problem.
What I do whenever this comes up (like 3-4 times now) is:
Uninstall Avast -> restart PC -> start MWO -> re-install Avast.
Done...
I hope that helps.
