I heard Lyran Commonwealth is all about assault mechs. Is everyone going to operate one? Because that wouldn't really seem productive and... fun... I am personally thinking more of a heavy or a medium.

Thank you for your answers in advance

It's just kind of a joke from source books, fiction, etc. In the canon the Lyran's tended to have an abnormal amount of Assaults/Heavies. But they did have Lights and Medium lances too. So I think you'll be ok.

Thank you for the answer. I think I might join the Lyran Commonwealth in the end.

well if you dont want to use an atlas awesome or catapult, the lyrans might not be for you since the lightest mech they use is the catapult for fast jj scount, awesome for direct fire support med, and main force of all atlas.

I'm pretty sure the last thing the Dev's want to see is everyone driving only assault mechs, the top reason open MW4 servers are so boring (imo). If it's not coded, I would hope the community would come to some kind of agreement on what constitutes a fair and fun game. If the community doesn't, I personally would seek gentlemen's aggreements with an opponent to ensure a balanced battle. Winning by out-tonning isn't a great victory. It's time to put the jokes aside and work together more to build a community that fosters and facilitates a fun gaming environment for all. Many have been waiting a very long time for a new mech game, let's not let the mickey mouse get in the way.

No, winning by out-tonning is Steiner's way. You can use less force, lost half of your guys and get an epic win, yeah!
But I perfer get as much more firepower and armor, crush the enemy and see all my mechs coming back, may be damaged but in one pice and on their feet.
That doesn't mean we need only atlases, personally I prefer medium and heavy mechs, but "more Atlases" can solve almost all problems on the battlefield!

Don't forget the Commando is also a classic Steiner design and it's one of the lightest Mechs out there.

Steiner: the only house that fields 400-ton scout lances, still thinks they're being stealthy, and in the end says "you sure we couldn't have fit another atlas on the dropship?"

it's like a 500 pound sumo wrestler trying to hide behind a tomato plant. hilarious, unless he happens to be hiding from you and will kill you once he realizes you've spotted him.

well i would like to use a commando or val, as a light mech, but if went heavy a good stiener mech would be either the old p-hawk or the enforcer, or another good choice i would like to see is the old shadow hawk, not good at any thing but flexible, a nice heavy would be the warhammer or grasshopper, thanks

The Skye Rangers Brigade is a fully formed 8 regiment house unit that specializes in a balanced mech force. Come join us and find out!

Eh I'm also worried about this. In tabletop, you can have two mediums for a price of a heavy or assault in BV, and there's some reasons and advantages to do so. However, in MWO, there's twelve slots, period. No sense in not filling every slot with as much firepower as possible.

Depending on game conditions, there could very well be drop weight limits for each planet/sector for a faction on offence, defense, who won last round, etc...really just speculating.
I would expect though that there would be some sort of encouragement to have more than one class in one's personal mech bay, particularly for certain mission types.

Yeah yeah, I know - you can *still* recce with a Zeus...

One unit I know had light mechs is the 25th Arcturan Guard. They would use the light mechs to circle around and harrass rear areas and to set up ambushs/traps. The 25th were a pretty successful unit, reliable and regular throughout their history. In their later years they were touted as being regular/fanatical.

Lot of Cavalry units for the Lyrans as well, and I believe the Ranger units used quite a few light mechs as well. Every regiment needs a recon unit, and no army in history ever decided to never use recon/scouts. So, light mechs or even mediums have been used by the Lyran Commonwealth/Alliance Armed Forces.

IF we do heavier is better that is fine, but some scouting will be needed. Just pimp out a lance of fast mediums to scouts so they dont feel too small when surrounded by Atlases on the drop ship.

Indeed. We probably won't see Griffons (the unseen and all :)), but those were also well liked by Steiner (two guarding the f-ing THRONE), and they could function as heavy scouts.
