I don't know how to ask this question in the forums or where to ask so that the devs can actually read and put my question into consideration. But I want to know why certain mech hitboxes haven't been fixed yet. For example, the Trebuchet's hitboxes are horrible. Almost all damage that the trebuchet takes goes to the front center torso, even from behind. The Jenner suffers from the same exact problem but not as bad. Yet, the Spider, this mech is being abused beyond belief. Almost every game has people abusing Spider builds. And this is because they all know that the Spider has the most obscure hitboxes of any mech. The center torso almost never takes any damage. And even when we fire on the legs, the legs rarely take even a fraction of the damage. I have shot countless ac/20 shots at a Spider's legs and torso at point blank on several occasions with the damage barely registering. I have played countless games where people run nothing but assault mechs and spiders. Countless games with countless Spiders. People are playing spiders because they know the spider is the only light mech that can take the most amount of damage and can stand up to even an atlas. This is not fair for those of us who run Jenners or medium mechs like Cicadas and Trebuchet. Even Streak SRMs don't do much against Spiders, as the damage is either spread out or don't register at all. I want to know if you plan to ever fix the hitboxes on Spiders? Or the Centurions which have a similar problem with the center torso so obscure even though the center torso is so big. This is an issue we keep running into lately, that and the sickening amount of hackers recently.

I honestly think this problem has been around for awhile and noone consider fixing them. Look at the Trebuchet. Out of all the medium mechs, the Trebuchet dies the fastest. I seen Hunchbacks take a serious payload of damage from every direction and survive. The kintaro after the fix, and even the blackjack is hard to kill. A trebuchet gets shot two or three times from almost any weapon and the center torso is exposed regardless of where they are shot. I know this from both sides. When fighting Trebuchet, I notice that no matter where I shoot the damage goes to the center torso. People say "Run a Standard, Zombie that Piece of Junk" That would be the case if it was possible. But first of all, Not all Trebs have a hardpoint in the center torso. Secondly, if the center torso didn't absorb all the damage, then I would consider running a standard. But in all my games, my left and right torso are never taken out. Always the center torso. Even with matched out armor. I have tried every armor configuration and ever style of play with the Trebuchet and still, you can't do anything with the Trebuchet that you can do with the other medium mechs. Can the developers please please fix this? Otherwise people won't be playing Trebuchets anymore especially when more and more medium mechs come out. It's taking me forever to master them because they are so easy to kill. They are also way too tall for a medium mech. Standing almost as tall as an Atlas. Making them an easier target already when you compare them to the much smaller Blackjack, Hunchback and Kintaro. Can I suggest scaling them down a little? At least to the same height as the other medium mechs more or less?

I also believe that the Jager mechs suffer from a similiar problem. Almost all the damage they take goes to the left or right torso. Even shooting them in the legs, its as if the damage is transfered to the upper torso. I love the Jagers, but I think they need to be fixed as well. But not as bad as the Trebuchet.

Thank you for taking the time to read this. Just something I wish to have knowledge about since the Spider/Centurion hitbox problem has been around for awhile.

And I would appreciate not getting shot down by people who think this isn't a issue because I assure you that it is. I really would like people to talk about this and consider seeing this through my point of view. Especially if you rarely run mediums or you never ran a trebuchet. I would rather send this concern directly to the developers because I feel as if they rarely read the forums. So please help me make this issue so they can see it and consider it. Otherwise, they will never fix the problem. ;)

I second the complaints on the spider. Raining LRMs, srms, and lasars and they run merrily along without dying.....fix it.

I say if we see anyone run a spider in match we screen shot it and report the player as a griefer/cheater/exploiter.

I pilot a TBT-7K and I've noticed funny hit registration on it too. I'm not entirely sure if this is a hitbox issue or a hit registration issue. Like the OP said, I've also seen damage taken to the rear transferred to the front inexplicably. Combined with the Trebs' larger size, it's much more likely to go down than a Centurion, even with identical armour values. I could swear a few time I've had hits to the shield arm register on the torso, unusual considering how meaty the 7k's shield arm is. However, that's probably due to lag or netcode issues.

I acknowledge that I pilot Spiders from time to time. And I can tell you now, they are not invincible. Maybe it's my Ping of 270, but my Spider goes down all the time. AC20s and Gauss Rifles are a sure way to kill them. Yes, I realise that those sorts of weapons are usually reserved for busting Assaults, but the simple fact is, they work so well against anything below 50 tons. I've also found that in one vs one Duels with Jenners, I will lose most times, due to their heavier armor and weapons.

When shooting at Spiders, I find I have the same problem dealing with them as I do any other light. Once again, it may be my ping of 270, but I've had all 9 Medium Lasers from a Hunchie on a Jenner at 90m, and the worst I did was flicker his paperdoll. That said, I've also hit a Spider at 800m with a Gauss and watched as the Right Arm disappeared, and almost, ALMOST, took the Right Torso with it.

So in closing, I think Hit Detection in general needs to be addressed, and some chassis may need additional sweeping to clean up the hitboxes, but we shouldn't just blame it all on the Spider.

I think it's the vertical and skinny profile of the spider that make it specifically hard to kill - Ravens, Jenners, and Cicadae have an easier target along the direction of motion. There's also a piloting factor in that if i'm not constantly changing direction in my Spider, i die very, very quickly - this suggests that the hitboxes are okay and the hit detection itself is a little shaky still.

The same problem applies to Trebuchets, IMO. Their hitboxes are good, but fighting a Treb pilot who is constantly fluttering the jumpjets on and off is extremely frustrating due to how much they shift vertically and how rarely damage seems to apply even if i get the hit indicator.

Yeah but thats the thing, as far as I know only two trebuchets use jump jets. And there are five variants. And although I did use a trebuchet with jump jets, their hitbox is so large they still take a lot of damage center torso even while jumping.

And I don't know about you, but I always had hard time fighting spiders. Even shooting at their legs, it seems way too difficult. I've shot at spiders standing still with PPCs and AC/20s and UAC5s and the damage doesn't register the way it does with other mechs. It's way too strange.

JJs usually affect what you hit very often.. it's the difference between a leg hit instead of a torso hit.

Most Trebuchets should really be long range.. as they are not really good brawlers. Their arms are easy to disable anyhow...

Before this last patch, I had some weird hit registration on my Atlas! Being an Atlas, most of my armor is in the front, but in one game, the mech died after one shot from a Cataphract about 500M away, getting through my BACK armor!

I also notice that the Jagermechs have horrible hitboxes too. Does anyone else notice it?

they just have large side torsos which makes them a bit vulnerable at times

Spider stills needs to be addressed, it really is a problem with the hitboxes.

I can confirm what the threadstarter is saying. A lot of hits on Spiders don't connect.

I don't mean shooting at a moving target or the sometimes still not working HSR. I am a decent shot and can shoot moving targets, but hits on Spiders don't connect correctly.

I can shoot at a shutdown Spider point range with AC20 or with 6 Lasers out of the Boars Head and it gets barely scratched.
Reticle turns red, armor boxes are blinking, but no dmg.

Commando doesn't have this problem(or more fitting advantage).
