I just tried reading through the Joystick sticky thread but 99% of it went way, WAY over my head.
So, here's the deal, I just got a Thrustmaster T-Flight Hotas X Flight Stick and I just cannot figure out how to get it configured properly. When I go to adjust the throttle in the options for forward and backward movement, the options only will accept one or the other when I go to assign it. For example, in the options, under Joystick, I double-click on "Throttle Up" and push forward on the throttle on the joystick. It asks me if I want to assign it for that and I say yes. Then, when I go to assign the Throttle Down, I double click on that option and pull back on the throttle on the joystick and the game barks at me saying something is already assigned to that and asks me to confirm it. I say yes.
Then, in the game, I can only use the throttle in whatever one setting the game accepted. So I can only go backward or I can only go forward, not both. It's just whatever the last setting I changed in the options was, so it's not accepting the throttle controller for forward and back, just one or the other. Same goes for turning with the left and right toggle, etc.
How can I fix this? Thanks!

For the throttle to work properly, don't configure using the "Throttle Up/Down" keys. Rather, scroll down the list and assign the throttle control for Analog Throttle. It should read under the Joystick Column "Joy 0 Axis Z" if properly assigned. Additionally, if you want to use the rudder rocker for your feet just assign Analog Turn to Joy 0 Slider 0.
Hope this helps. Keep us posted if you need additional assistance.

It is also worth noting that the hotas X is a bit cheap and nasty. A real pity as the layout is ideal for MWO, but there are some major stumbling blocks:
1) The detents (notches) in the throttle are in annoying places. From looking at the innards it should be quite easy to remove the detents altogether, and I think you could probably move them with some DIY work.
2) The rudder rocker is very unreliable (For both of the 2 of these sticks I have) - open up windows game controller properties for the stick, hold the rudder full left and then whack it full right (And vice versa) very quickly. For me, the rudder reports no change in value for at least a second after you do this. In order to fix this, you would need to replace the pots either with new ones, or with a Hall Sensor upgrade.

Thanks evilC. My tinkering days are largely behind me, I'm afraid. A pretty advanced case of arthritis makes holding a soldering gun a risky proposition at best. So I likely won't be swapping out the potentiometers any time soon. I am, however, looking long and hard at the Saitek X52 Pro. Heard some good things about it, so maybe it'll make Santa's list this year.

This doesn't seem to work. I found the section you are referring to and when I double-click the box to assign the throttle it just keeps blinking when I move the throttle up and down.

From what I read in the forums, it's the choice by many MWO users, which is why I bought it.

I'm not sure what you mean here. The buttons all seem to be in really good locations for me.

When I test it in the game I'll let you know but if this requires any modifications whatsoever, I just assume return the item and buy something different. I didn't spend money on a DIY project, I spent it on something that works properly and was suggested to me.

A "Detent" is a notch in the throttle - when sliding the throttle, you can feel two places where it sticks a little.
The Hotas X has two - "Idle" and "Afterburner"
The Idle one is about at 20%, the Afterburner is about at 80%.
It's just a bit annoying - for MWO. one at 50% would be nicer.
I am not slating the layout of the stick at all - it is perfect for MWO. If it weren't for the rudder rocker being unreliable, I would use it.
When I get a bit of spare cash and time, I am going to upgrade it to hall sensors and solve these problems - I have two of these sticks, so I can probably afford to be a bit brave when modding them.
What you are describing is real odd...
So when you bind it to the digital binding, it shows up as "Joy 0 Axis Z", but when you try to bind it to the analog binding, it does not work??
