Now I am a fairly new player and have only been playing for about a week and a half or so but I have found my self indulging my self in this game. One thing in particular that I love is the customization this offers. The different engines weapons mech chassis for each mech. But Ive noticed this game is becoming some what of a "put the biggest this and that on because it does the most damage and lets you run the fastest". I have also been made aware of the fact that there used to be a repair and rearm function in the game that would make players fix their mechs and buy more ammo in the mech labs. also that the function as it was would balance the battle field a little bit and keep the game to lore. with assaults costing so much to maintain people would run the very under used mediums more often. this would fit the lore a bit better considering that it was said that the battlefield would be littered with mediums a couple heavies and a couple assaults. and personally i find it frustrating that everybody runs heavies and assaults. with only a few lights and mediums. i just want to know why it was taken out it seems like such an interesting game mechanic. also one that would make people think more about what they are bringing into battle.

Imagine a total noob, that blew his cadet bonus on an assault mech, got it completely destroyed and didn't make any cbills. Now he is forced to play trials again to be able to repair that assault or will just uninstall the game, because apart from grinding to buy other mechs, you now need to spend cbills just to being able to play them. I can't see any fun in that. Will not change anything for all the vets who already have 10s or 100s of millions of cbills gathered.
Drop weight limit is the natural fix for that.

Given the recent reduction in c-bills we earn the very last thing we need is a further reduction in income that r&r would lead to.

Decent players are just about getting 120k for a well played game a new player has no chance of getting close to that and they are the ones most in need of cash.

In lore few battles ended with one side wiped out, you'd fight until badly damaged then withdraw because you could not easily replace a mech when it was lost, in 3050 they were just starting to recover lost technologies and had not yet got back to mass production of mechs.

Repair and rearm rewarded people for taking the cheapest possible mech into combat.

If you win, you get to keep 1/12 of the salvage bonus which can be some nice money. If you lose though, you pay 100% of whatever your personal repair bill is.

Game theory says that since you are only 1/12 of the team you are not going to win it or lose it by taking something cheap, therefore a logical actor will take the cheapest mech they can field.

That outcome sucks though since we probably want to play against strong opponents and bring our own strong mechs.

Just as a side note more expensive doesn't always mean better either - consider inner sphere pulse lasers. They are expensive but they are just not that good....

rather undecided about this. it would make it somewhat more 'realistic' because, yeah, you know where this is going. however, if this would really be implemented, i'd loose more cb than i earn because i'm pretty terrible at this game lol.

They talked about this in the latest podcast from the NGNG crew with Brian Eckman this past week.

Repair costs were too hard to balance. They usually punished new players too much. It wasn't working, so it is gone.

However, pre-made teams such as 4-man, 8-man, and 12-man teams for public games are going to have weight restrictions on them. All 12 cannot be in assault mechs.

There will also be a game mode where you have 3 re-spawns, but again it will be weight restrictions. You cannot use the same mech twice, and you will be restricted to something like a total weight of 200 tons or so.

All of this is waiting for the new User Interface 2.0 that is coming next month.

Half of all players lose more than win on a regular basis. A repair & rearm system either screws those people over big time (bye bye, new player retention), or has so many "sorry you broke your mech" bonuses that is becomes irrelevant. It makes no sense in a multiplayer environment -- it can only be useful to balance SP campaigns.

Mechlab as a concept is the worst thing in this game.
Thare should be just mechs that you bay and use and in mechlab you can just customize electronics, ammo, cockpit, camo stuff like that. This model is working great in a Rise of Flight game whare you bay airplanes.
With mechlab in its current state is impossible to balance gameplay and what is more important the chasis you choose not really matter that much, you allways can put in it what ever you want, so thats come more to skin preference, weight, speed. Mech you choose no really matters that much.
In fight I see for exmpl hunchy-4g and I think damn this guy is danger in close quarters lets take him to open and shot the baster from a far with my ppc. What surprise do I fell when he start shooting at me lets say from gauss. Even worst if I would piloting that HBK-4G how schizofremic I would fell piloting such a monster chimera.
This game raelly needs to change its structure.
