The defalt rate for auto fire is slow. I am hammering my trigger like crasy. does any one know what a autofire line in user config file should look like?

All the weapons have specific firing rates, not every weapon is a machine gun or pulse laser. If there is a console command to speed up your firing rate, it would probably be considered an exploit and against the TOS. You could speed up your mouse clicks through your OS, your mouse software, and / or a macro, which is a cheeseball crutch, but is not considered an exploit (yet).

The way the weapon groups work is that they will trigger the next weapon when the current one has finished, regardless of the speed of the weapon or the number of them chained together.
So if you have 2xAC2 in a group in chain fire, it will fire at 0.5 (Which is the reload rate of 1xAC2) instead of the desired 0.25 (Half the fire rate as you have 2 of them).
PGI have clearly put sod all effort into allowing you to use the full capability of the weapons on your mech - it's alpha fire or bleeding fingers basically. Obviously in their effort to nerf alpha fire, they neglected to note that maybe the reason everyone was using alpha was because chain fire is so utterly useless.
Your only solution is a configurable kb or mouse, or 3rd party software, such as my "Fire Control" macro. See sig.

I assume by "weapon groups" you mean "chain fire" and that only holds true if you hold down the key/mouse button.
If you multi-click, it skips ahead to the next step immediately.
Generally people group the same weapons together with chain-fire and then multi-click to get more than one to fire when wanted/necessary. Groups are designed to allow separate keys/buttons to be assigned to different weapons.
Pretty much anyone alpha firing is "doing it wrong" these days of ghost heat.
As for the original question, weapons only fire once they've cooled down. Look at the little red bars next to them. When the bar loses all of its red, its ready to fire again. Mashing your mouse buttons won't change that (might break your mouse however).

The OP knows that, this is why he is complainging that for 4xAC2s, you would have to click 8 times a second to fire at full rate.
It doesn't matter if you have 1 or 4 AC2s set to chain fire in the same group, it fires at the rate of 1 AC2.

Not really.
Ghost heat breaks chain fire more than alpha fire.
firing two volleys of 4xAC2s:
Alpha:
4 fire - 2x HP (Heat Penalty)
[0.5sec]
4 fire - 2x HP
Total: 4x HP
Chain:
1 fire
[0.125]
1 fire
[0.125]
1 fire - 1x HP
[0.125]
1 fire - 2x HP
[0.125]
1 fire - 3x HP
[0.125]
1 fire - 4x HP
[0.125]
1 fire - 4x HP
[0.125]
1 fire - 4x HP
Total: 17x HP
Whatever, if you want to chain fie at the proper rate, your only solution is 3rd party software. I provide an application called Fire Control that should meet all your needs, a link is in my sig.

unless something has changed, chain-fair waits 0.5 seconds which is exactly the elapse time to prevent ghost heat from kicking in. If you mash your buttons to speed up chain-fire, that's your own doing and what ghost heat was designed (poorly) to penalize.

Yes, chain fire with AC2s fires at the rate of 0.5
Which is utterly utterly useless, since that is the rate of one AC2 - so of course you need to speed up the fire rate else there's no point in wasting the tonnage!
A "proper" firing rate for 4xAC2s would be 0.125 (0.5 / 4).
So my point was that ghost heat was meant to make chain fire more attractive than alpha fire, when in fact it does the exact opposite.

Only in the case of AC2 (and duration weapons). In the case of PPC, AC5, AC10, etc it's perfect.
