Here is what i have found. I run a bj-3 most of the time. I started out running 2 ppc and 2 med lasers. My average damage was around 450 a match. Now with that same set up i average 270. i can hit 350 on a really good game of hitting a lot and not getting hit much. I changed my load out to 2 Large lasers and 2 med and jumped right back to my 450 average.
To me they PPC's have been over nerfed. I can now do more damage with Large lasers since they don't over heat so fast. To me they should be at the very least equal. i think they are now equal to Med lasers. Don't even bother with ERPPC's now. they run waaaay to hot.

While the ppc offers less dps than the large laser, it gives you pinpoint precision. You can pop up shoot straight at the center torso and then go back behind cover.
With the large laser, you have to expose yourself more, and is more likely to spread your damage to different parts of the enemy mech.
Also the ppc har greater range.
The heat is the drawback, otherwise you'll get the situation we had for months where people used nothing but ppc and gauss.
I'm still doing very well in my k2 with 2 LL and 2 ppc btw.
