The thing doesn't tell you that you've just built a mech that is over tonnage. I just built one, tried to join a game and got this error saying that it was too heavy, only after being charged to make it. Mech lab is supposed to tell players that a mech can't even be put together. NOT, charge a player credits, THEN tell them they can't use it. This has to be addressed asap, mech lab is a huge part of this game, and now with release, I can't believe this happens. Fortunately in my case it was not a huge amount of cbills, and was slightly offset by the engine I sold (but I did need to buy a new engine, not an XL version), so the price wasn't outrageous, but some one buying an XL would feel the hurt more, then add weapon costs & other upgrades to that (like ferrofibrous / dhs). It's a grind for this stuff, so in some ways I feel like the game ripped me off.

Although the forums are a great place to ask questions and interact with other players that use them, they are no substitute for sending in a support ticket. Please do so others are not affected by the same issue you encountered.

Smart players use the following:
http://mwo.smurfy-net.de/mechlab
Before actually buying the stuff in-game...
Also... mechlab has a bug that will allow you to go over tonnage even though it is not suppose too.
Usually it is the armour points. Reduce you armour by a few points until it stops saying.. 'Too heavy'.
