Does The Mw:o Launch Page Give It A P2W Feel?

Over the months I've had several friends try the game. However I received the most curious feedback the other day from one of them that was about to try it a bit:

" I went to the main page and at least half the things I saw were about sales or things to buy using real money. I avoid F2P games that place a heavy emphasis on spending real cash on their front page. "

That particular feedback really threw me off and I was wondering if his opinion is an isolated one (first time I heard it, but I don't represent the entire community) or something that new players who do look into F2P games might get a bad impression of MW:o from it's home page?

EDIT: I shouldn't have brought up P2W in the topic, this is more about the impression from the launch page.

It makes it look like they need it off their "in beta" board before they start their new year and feel that's adequate criteria for a launch.

It's looking like a cash grab (not launch specifically, just the game) but not pay 2 win.

i personally had never thought it was an issue, but i see from a lot of new player reviews etc. that they are very annoyed by the gameclient's front page.

I guess for people who first see the game and don't understand that you don't need to spend money, its very intimidating and makes it seem like you do have to spend money. Probably attenuated by the fact that other F2P games they come from, even WoT doesn't have this practice.

a very easy solution is to just to replace those with the tutorials and maybe guides from the forums instead of sales. at launch. until they have UI 2.0

It may simply be a matter that there is nothing else to put on the launch screen. Most MMOs generally put sales, content updates, and ongoing events on their launch screens. However, MWO doesn't run regular events and we only see a new mech once every month. New maps are seen less frequently.

What I am hoping for post launch is that we will see a steady stream of in-game event. More than just the occasional Piranha Hunt, or leader board challenges. Ones that EVERYONE can participate in and come out of it with something. After all, it is these in-game events that keep a game from growing dull and monotonous.

The two fundamental rules of MMOs are, 1) always have a sale (either normal items or limited time items) and 2) always have an event running with even rewards.

I don't think it says P2W. More like "BUY STUFF! BUY STUFF NOW!...oh and there's also a game."

It's a business, and most F2P games will try to sell you stuff on their front page, as that's what they're supposed to do!

Given the state of the shop, they need to spell out the sales or else you can't see them. It's not a pop up ad, nor is it so obnoxiously sized that it feels cheep, and it's generally in a simple news feed or in a small corner of the screen that always has the latest sale notes.

Want to criticize them on the price of things? That I'll agree with. Want to criticize them on simply telling you what's on sale? That's looking for a reason to hate.

And these are just the games that use clients.

Much harder to find anything about cash shops in the F2P game without clients Firefall, Path of Exile(hell you wouldn't even know one existed in path of exile) etc etc.

The startpage is horrible. When i started the game it took time to even find out how to start this game. Only advertisement... I hope they fix it soon that on release date there is something more practical and more beautiful...

I couldn't give less of a <bleep> about P2W at this point. The game is nowhere near what was promised for launch. Frack everything else.
