"Man, this weapon sucks for mid-range DPS now!"

Well, since the whole point of the patch was to make the Gauss more of a sniper and less of a mid/short-range brawling weapon, I'd say Mission Accomplished.

It actually sucks now for sniping. When you snipe you pop out of cover and quickly find a target before being spotted and shot back. Half the time when you use gauss, your initial target gets under cover before you charge or you don't have a favorable shot on them (hit an arm rather than torso for example) so you try and switch to a second target, but oh look... you gauss has already lost its charge and you have to start over charging. But before you can do that you have been spotted and take a face full of AC2's, ERPPC, or UAC5. This change completely ruined the gauss for sniping. There is no issue brawling with it because you are point blank with your target. if their goal was to turn gauss into a brawling weapon... then mission accomplished.

That's not true, it actually sucks for edge sniping and brawling both. The "normal" reload delay feels like an eternity now so your DPS in a brawl is greatly diminished even if you do time everything perfectly. You've already explained how it sucks for corner dueling.

I actually like that matches seem to last longer now that it's been all but removed from the game but I hate that the gauss has become the red-headed step-child of game balance. For the record, I never had any complaints about being decimated by or decimating with any of the high alpha builds that PGI wastes so much time diddling around with.

R.I.P. Gauss-that-we-knew...

The Gauss is so ruined for sniping you only have to aim one mech width in front of somebody going 60 KPH at 800 meters to hit center torso every time. How awful. It's only bad up close if you panic and screw up your charge timing. It's not great at hitting people poking out from cover, but if you can anticipate somebody coming out from cover the projectile comes out so fast they can't retreat in time to avoid it.

But hey go ahead and keep crying about the Gauss being broken so PGI leaves it alone.

Its not as good at snap firing against stationary targets (whoopty ding dong) it is far better at hitting moving targets at long range YAY!!!

projectile speed was a big buff....
