Non-Player Objects

A question for the programmers out there:
How hard would it be to add additional objects beforehand to the maps, that are neither map nor player?
How hard would it be to spawn them DURING a running game?

They could be:
- destructible landscape
- destructible buildings
- destructible forest-patches with fire&smoke-animation

They would pave the way for:
- non-moving, non-shooting NPOs (mines)
- moving, non-shooting NPOs for escort-missions (vehicles, dropships...)
- moving, shooting NPOs (tanks, maybe elementals)
