I'm not a fan of Terra Therma, its not fun.

The setup is awesome for say a death match like Solaris but hampers a team effort. Far to many bottlenecks for the average pug. Easy access to cover makes packing a LRM boat useless and unless we can pick maps I would rather just see this one not show up in my rotation. Mind you I have only one LRM boat but 90% of my games with that mech pop on this map.

Yup, Mordor is awful.
  • Mechs are very hard to see on the dark background (thermal and NV don't help).
  • The doorways into the theta arena are awful chokepoints.
  • Capping the surrounding points on anything but a light is nearly impossible due to long distances, steep slopes and many hills to circumnavigate
Other maps that are nearly as annoying:
  • Canyon Network - a nightmare without jump jets, even with JJs you have a hard time getting out of the trenches
  • Alpine Peaks - too big, no cover

I quite enjoy Terra Therma, even though I pilot a slow mech 54kmh - mind you, I do have jump jets too. Map I hate most is River City, because it's too small and there isn't many ways to do sneaky flanking maneuvers, as well as the bases being too easy to defend (especially the one on the high ground).

Alpine peaks annoys me because the team starting on the high side has a definite advantage, because it's very easy for one of your scouts to see the low-side team, but the low-side team's scouts have to expose themselves a bit to find out exactly where you are.

I'm missing the option of: None - I'd keep them all

- Therra Therma is currently my best map (but I didn't have enough matches on it for a real statistical relevance). Even without trying to do capture wins.
- Alpine Peaks is my second to best map. Best by far, if I don't count TT. Without ever having played a sniper build. I'm a brawler, LRM and Scout player.
- River City is small but one of the most complex maps. Even so there are some key positions, there are fights everywhere.
- River City Night ups the ante a bit, by reducing visibility. My worst map, with a below 1.0 win ratio, but I still like it.
- Caustic Valley, looks like a nice open map, but there is lots of cover to hide behind and room to manouver around your opponent.
- Tourmaline Desert has something for everyone. Fast mechs have enough room and cover to outmanouver the heavier builds. There are wide open spaces for sniper ambushes. There are enclosed valleys and cover that enable brawling without fear of said snipers. There are way more chokepoints than you can ever hope to cover.
- Frozen City has become a "hide behind the ridge" map. But because of that, more often then not, in Conquest mode the tunnel is free for flanking manouvers and in Assault mode it's the frozen coastline nobody cares to look at.
- Frozen City Night is the same as Frozen City just with better vision. I see it as a kind of weather effect and count it as the same map as FC.
- Forest Colony and Forest Colony Snow are classics. While some say that the map now feels cramped with 12 vs. 12 I never had so much fun on this map since closed Beta. An always moving battle with several hotspots during the course of a match is much more fun for me, than a stand and deliver match along long distances.
- Canyon Network allows for those stand and deliver matches, but provides options around it. In my opinion the best map so far.

Every map is different. You need to adjust your playstyle to the different environments. This is war in the inner sphere, it will not always provide you with the best possible battlefield.

Voted River City night... with the Thermal update it when from a horrible blue map to a terrible green map.

The close second would be Tera Therma ( distances too long becasue of the covering mountains too big to run up for shorter distances) and Canyon network (a really nice map, but severely crippled becasue of too few ways out of the trenches once you are down there and dont have JJs).

Edit: Add more ways out of the trenches in Canyon Network and it would go from one of the worst maps to one of the best maps IMO.

River City Night -

I have trouble with the night vision. I've used night vision and I know the limitations of it. I just don't like the green filter/ limited view distance.

To contrast regular river city is one of my favorite maps. I know it well having played on it for a year or so. River city night is a map I loath, because I hate night vision, I don't feel like I can see anything well and zoom is near useless because of the draw distance.

this is all personal opinion

Terra / Alpine - You could reduce the map by 1/3 and still get the same gameplay results. River night became broken when they switched thermal (I know the old thermal was cheap, but was waaayy better to use)

River City Night. Nothing says 'fun' like wandering around with limited visibility while being continuously bombarded with LRM20's from across the map.

None. I like the variety...and challenges presented by all of the maps.

MORE maps...not less maps. Duh.

Throw the NONE option up there! I'll fight you in the dark! I'll fight you in the mosh pit! I'll totally miss you and get capped in the alpine snow!

I like the maps!

I dislike Terra Therma the most because it's difficult terrain, high heat favoring ballistics.

I have spent 24 hours on Tourmaline Desert and Alpine Peaks, I think those maps aren't much fun either.

What really gets to me is that I have at most half of 24 hours on the smaller maps, even Caustic Valley is only 11 hours total.

It makes me frustrated because I dislike long range engagements. It makes the game play too peek a boo, not to mention that to say the battle takes twice as long on Alpine / Tourmaline is only partially true.. so PGI has the ratio turned up or that's just my luck. The fact these maps take longer in general and force players to bring long range weapons to bare is annoying, and with the randomness of the current meta it makes you feel like you should equip one of everything and be well balanced.... but then you run into something that isn't well balanced they're all just long range or just short range and you get obliterated because they have more firepower for the situation.
Screw the big maps, they really threw a stick in my spokes.

Stomp stomp is only fun for about 60 seconds... the rest should be spent dog fighting, you know, moving and turning... using the terrain to your benefit (can't use the terrain on a slow mech on a huge map now can ya? Kinda have to pick a spot and hope for the best... lame) weaving in and out like an elegant dance of who's going to die first!? That's what I'm good at.

TL;DR - My Extended Range Particle Projector Cannon has been fired about 20,000 times.

It might show that I haven't played much on Terra Therma. I dislike Alpine the most. Visually uninteresting, and it turns the game into "Mech Jogger Online".

And yet all of the polls advocating the removal of Terra Therma are decidedly against it's removal.

Canyon network. This map hates my Atlases but that's OK because I hate it back! Chock full of valleys I can't climb out of, with a mech with largely low-slung weapons, with little defence against jumping mechs who are fully capable of dominating the high ground. I fully understand that some maps suit some mechs better than others but this shambles just isn't fun. It used to be marginally OK before the terrain handling system was implemented (something I actually agree with for the most part) but now it's just a pile of fail for me. I despise it with a passion.

Pretty much enjoy all of the other maps. Forest Colony & Caustic Valley are my firm favourites, love playing both those maps.

While I'm not a fan of Terra Therma for a few reasons, it'd have to be Snowy City. I don't have a particularly impressive PC, but its good enough that I can run the game with a good FPS at low settings, and thats all I need. Unfortunately, for whatever reason (I'm guessing weather effects), my FPS tanks on Snowy City. The other day, I was having a particularly bad day with my FPS rate for some reason, I was getting three frames per second. Not thirteen, not twenty-three, or thirty-three, but just three. This happens almost every single time I get this map. I'm not a fan of the map design either.

As much as I hate River City Night the lay out is still fun and it does break up the grind of the other maps. Alpine Peaks, however, is just a terrible map. It's flat, desolate and far too vertical for it's own good. Maybe it if got a serious pass on it's geo and was completely restructured it could be better but at this juncture it's just a terrible map to play on.

Don't get me wrong, if there was a good reason to go to Terra Therma I would go. The problem I have is I would like to know where I am going so I could bring the best mech for the job. The real problem is there are no drop limitations and there is no "missions" or reason for going to a particular place. I hope that there is a real push for this once the rest of the game is in place and things heat up with factions. Its just not cool for random drops with this type of game-play..... why would I ever bring a all energy weapon mech to a volcano? Why would a bring my short range brawler to a wide open sniper map or my long range sniper to a city brawl?

Its hard to create a mech to do the job its made to do when you have to factor in it has to survive on all maps. I would honestly create mechs for brawling if I knew I was going to a city map, I would make a hot running mech if I was going to be running a campaign on an ice planet..... the entire game revolves about building mechs to fit missions and maps. Currently we are making mechs to play Solaris on random maps... making all mechs carbon copies of "what works best on all maps".
