Like I said, he was fine, and his post was fine, until he went on to say we were all whiners and basically did not know what we had.

Our thoughts are just as legit as yours, bud.

Quite dedicated to make two accounts, but it's great that you're enjoying the game. Sincerely wish I could feel the same after over a year of disappointing stagnation. The game needs new players that like it.

But complaining about people complaining is not helping your cause. It's just more complains and whines and cries, over the existing complains and whines and cries. Also, an advice: respect other people's opinions so that they would respect yours. Don't dismiss what others says just because you do not agree. Some are upset that PGI nerfed c-bills (about 30% or so) but you don't think it's bad? Just ignore them!

Hate to say OP but your view point is mostly invalid. It's always a good thing to refrain from posting about the quality of a game for a while, why?

Because your experiencing new game syndrome, new game syndrome goes 1 of 2 ways.

Either it's the best game ever with all it's flashy abilites and stuff to explore/do/unlock/fight yadda yadda yadda. You have yet to set into the 'grind' you have yet to see PGI fail on deadlines, promises, design pillars. You haven't seen mech after mech come out that's oversized, crappy hitboxes, redundant hardpoints.

Simply put you haven't seen the {Scrap} past the shine yet because it's new. I had this exact experience with Swtor it was all super awesome till you hit end game and saw what everyone ******* about and I was dismissing

The converse is people that complain about game mechanics and play style before they even get to learn how or why (IE my friend crying about how stupid LoL is without even bothering to learn the basics)

Wow, I'm obligated to believe your made up facts. Let's start arguing about who's dad is better.

OP is correct to think that a lot of whining about unimportant issues goes on in these forums. However he also ignores that there is a lot of important issues whining that goes on in these forums too.

Seriously, OP, that thing that you're doing now. Shooting mechs, wandering around and looking at stuff, generally enjoying yourself. That's cool. We were all there. However the difference is that we were all there a year ago, and literally nothing has changed since then. The varnish wore thin a long time ago and we're still waiting for information on the stuff that was scheduled for release in March.

Coming into a forum of veterans and posting opinions as a newbie is valid and welcome, but simply dismissing the concerns of the veterans is a bit dumb.

Hey h4v3n,
don't let the forum's get you down. I have been playing the game for over a year on my account and before that my buddy let me use his founders account in closed Beta. I am still here, I am still having fun both with my clan and in full-PUG mode.

People can get touchy about having their viewpoint considered invalid and at times I have to watch what I say too. Reading the forums you would think PGI ate children or something. Fortunately I am able to form my own oppinion and it looks like you can as well which is great. Yes, PGI has several promises they did not or could not keep. Yes the game has bugs and people often have issues with balance. It's all there, just like the other veterans say, but what you make of it is how it will affect your gaming experience.

and guys, if the varnish has worn think and the game is not fun anymore, take a break, really. This game needs new players just as much as it needs veterans if it is going to be a success. Try not to scare off the new people please. We need to encourage people to play and stay. The more poeple that play the more attention the game gets which means that those people who invested in setting it up will give it more attention.

In todays world we have new games flooding the market on a weekly basis, competition is tough and the attention span of players is often short. Mechwarrior is a niche product with a high potential of failing whether it is good or bad without support. I for one don't feel like waiting years like I did for a new MW/BT game to follow MWO like I did for something/anything to follow MW4. MWLL had a lot of options but died because of its tiny player base and was really dominated by Aerospace which made it frustrating.

As for "the grind", I find myself in a position where I have settled on 5 mechs that I love to play, have them up to master level, have all of the piolot efficiencies unlocked, have all the modules I want for my mechs ready and installed, and all that in less than a year of casual play. Right now the C-bills are accumulating unnoticed on the side, just like Mech XP and GXP. There is no grind right now, just enjoying play. When another mech turns up that catches my interest (I dont jump on every new mech that is put out) I intend on having fun playing it and watching it evolve.

With you being brand new and all, its easy for you to be dismissive of the criticism regarding PGI. Some folks like me however, have been around since the start and have witnessed firsthand PGI's total bungling of things that should be pretty simple and doing the total OPPOSITE of what their playerbase wants. (Oh, I forgot, the playerbase that largely funded the founders program is now a "vocal minority".)

If you had been here since the begining, you would probably have a much different outlook.

Over all the OP is right. The is community complains more than any free to play game community I have EVER been a part of. Nothing else even comes close. And yes I know the game is not perfect etc etc. But man reading the forum gets realing tiring.

Although some things are kinda funny. People yelling about where is the promised 12vs12. Complaining about how long its taking to get going. How much they want it. Then yelling about how they hate it and how they loved 8vs8. And this is both on here and in the recent article on MWO.

So to the OP do not let the forums get you down :D

On Monday of last week I have pick up MWO and have fallen in love. I was fortunate enough to get into the mwtactics closed beta and tabletop being my first love, I was ecstatic. I have been playing MWT for the past month now, and though buggy, it has been wonderful. I then was curious to see how MWO has been doing, now that I have a PC worth running it. As it turns out it is just about everything I could have hoped for. Great battle experience, getting to pilot my favorite mechs in combat against other players. Because, let's face it, the next best thing is MW4:mercs, and compared to this, MW4 sucks to high heaven. And the fact that this is free to play has sucked me right in. Until yesterday I never really looked at the forums beyond the "mech strategy guides" forum because I was looking at loadouts and getting information on what works and what doesn't work within the rules of the game. Then I decided to stray elsewhere and read some other forums, BAD idea. All the whining and B******* about this nerf to cbills or the balancing of weapon loadouts by ghost heat, I'm sorry they don't let you 1-shot mechs anymore, but I feel that it's for the better. I have only seen 1 person running a mech with 5-6 PPCs on it, and you know what? it shot me, shut down, and got blown away lol. In the cannon universe you'd never see or field such a mech anyway, so why should it be viable on here?

Coming from a new player who has yet to put anything into the game but time, I feel like my experience so far has been fantastic. sure, I screwed up the first time I started. I got though that bonus time in the beginning and made silly purchases and made a few just awful mechs and wasn't doing so hot once that time was done and I was at standard earnings. so, I realized my mistake and made a new account and tried to do things right. I saved everything I could, I researched builds and mechs that sparked my interest and now a week later, I am the proud owner of two mechs, a stalker and a jagermech. I have the stalker loaded the way I wanted it and am working on the jagermech. I only have a std engine to work around with until I save enough Cbills to buy the XL for the jager, but until that time I am playing with a different loadout then I originally wanted, but that's OK with me. I realize this is Free to play and that there would be a "grind". But really, aren't we here for one thing? to blow away very large hunks of armored metal madness? So why are people complaining SO much on how much they need to play to do something? when the point of the game is to do what you're complaining about doing, which is fighting in battles and blowing things away.

That leads me to my next point which is the purchasing system. C-bills are great and have done me well so far with my two mechs. I've only been here a short time and I know that I will need to play a lot of games with the mechs I have to be able to buy anything else. but if you have 1 or 2 chassis that you like, why complain about wanting more so quickly? Sure, it'd be nice to have 2 more mechs to play around with and mess with builds, but I realize I don't have the C-bills for it yet, so I'm going to continue to enjoy playing the GAME instead of playing a pseudo-pokemon and try to collect them all. I, like a lot of people, are here for the 5-10 minute battles, not to min/max a chassis for the sake of min/maxing it. Now, I never got to experience the older times when things were faster, but coming in as a new pilot, things are going at the speed I expect them to. and when the time comes, you bet I'm going to pony up the cash to buy more mech slots or a package. I'm not quite up to putting down nearly $30 for a mech (Mr. Orion) because I think that's a bit excessive and ridiculous since I easily blow them away with the two chassis I have now. But, I will support the game in the near future and will continue to enjoy the "thinking man's FPS" for a great long while.

I would also like to add that I am very glad that I did not read the forums first, or get involved in the community till now, the excessive whining and discontent with superficial aspects of the game most likely has, and will continue to, drive new players away from the game. I've witnessed the drain that constant negatively focused forums have had on a game, it's dismal and downright disgusting. To blow up relatively minute issues and make them seem like they are choking the life out of a game is ridiculous and counter productive to a new game trying to make its way in the market. Especially a gem such as this. So, to the "negative Nancies" out there who aim to ruin the game, why don't you stop, think, and comprehend what you are doing here in the first place? If you don't enjoy the game, don't uselessly lurk on the forums. Let the rest of us discuss or read other topics of interest other than "omg they suck because they did X, Y, Z" We want to play the game and enjoy it for what it is, not what you perceive it to be.

I'm curious as to why you believe this community is so bad. Could it be that the community and project in general was mismanaged by IGP/PGI? I have been in plenty of beta communities and a few F2P and this forum is full of negativity. There were delays, balance issues, missed deadlines and all this same {Scrap} in all of them. Yet the communities never got so toxic that the developers had to remove General Discussion or have articles about the forums revolting in the gaming press. The one thing that was different was the developers. I imagine even some of the players are the same.
This team has botched community relations and failed miserably at communicating with it's player base. They seem to think it's ok to do what they please and ignore feedback as long as they "apologize" after. Or their new tactic of not saying anything for fear of negative feedback. When the devs are scared of the community it speaks poorly of the team.
But go on blaming the community as some how being different from other gaming communities. I think the simplest explanation is the best. One half of the player developer relations is bad, I leave it to you to determine which.

I was accused of being a new player on this account recently. Some people are just stupid. And MWO has more than the average number of idiots. Luckily the ignore feature works quite well.

LOL, I just realized that it is exactly 1 year since I made my account :) I do not regret one minute of my play time, nor 1 cent of the money I have spent on it. Keep up the good work.

Hey guys give the OP some slack here. There is no reason to bust him over being optimistic. It's actually a nice change of pace here among the forum lurkers. I agree that the game is fun. Could it be better? Well hell ya. I want tonnage limits in 12mans. I want a 1pv only 12man. I want them to deliver on time and not promise things and then do another. However, I have never stayed with a game as long as I have this one. I play it every day and the thing that is keeping me coming back is not PGI or upcoming features. It is the community and the guys I play with in my merc group. It is fun to get on and blow things up with my buddies. If I pugged all the time I would go crazy. In fact I hardly pug at all anymore. So, OP don't get discouraged. Go find a merc group to play with, get on comms, grab a beer, and have fun.

I have to mirror my merc-mate's position.

It is different to see a positive thread, and like I predicted after I read the post there would be people trying to beat it down. The community here is not any more volatile than say some of the other games, BF3, CoD, Diablo 3 etc. Its good to see the same guys complaining over the past year, lets me know that they are still playing and the numbers are still pretty strong. That 12 man queue though is getting real weak however. I would still come on the forums I wouldn't avoid it.

Definitely getting involved with a group hopping on vent and shooting the breeze with like minded people will help along the way. Once you start getting better at the game, and your ELO improves the competition will start becoming more and more stiff, at that point it may start to become a grind. It sounds like you're having a blast at the moment :) Good hunting fellow Mechwarrior !

Thanks for the post :) ... there is a great deal of negativity on the forums.

However, one of the reasons for this negativity is that the fun game of dropping into battles and blowing up random opponents will only keep folks interested for so long. After some time, which varies based on the individual, it becomes boring and people either leave permanently since the game doesn't offer any more, or they take a break in the hope that the game will offer more sometime in the future. Personally, I have been waiting for that "more" for a long time now (more than a year).

The "more" in my opinion are reasons to play OUTSIDE of the visceral appeal of blowing up mechs in a match:
1) Community warfare - fighting FOR something
2) Experience - fighting to earn experience to improve in game performance.
3) Mastering every mech - this one doesn't appeal to me but it motivates some folks to play.
4) Greater variety in game modes and strategy - ties into community warfare in some ways
5) Lobbies with the ability to organize and structure tournaments/competitions

There is no community warfare and the experience system is very poorly designed to motivate folks to play.

So, although I generally agree with you regarding the mech combat aspects of MWO ... these haven't changed substantially since closed beta. They have added mechs, maps and made minor adjustments (some might disagree with minor) to weapon balance ... but in my opinion, they have made no progress on the features that will ultimately make MWO the game it aspires to be (at least in my opinion).

Well honestly it is good to hear your having a great experience with the game.

However, your new and the game is fresh so give it some time. Eventually the limitation of having only 2 game modes, combined with only having a few mechs to play will get to you. At some point after you having 300-400 battles in the same 2 mechs you will be looking for something new to ease the repetition which in this game means new mechs.

Then after getting a couple more new mechs and now having 1000+ battles, you will realize that even a couple more mechs isn't enough so you will want more.

Then at this point you will realize it is taking forever to get a new mech, let alone three to master out a chassis. You will also realize that Wow....modules are really expensive, more than most mechs cost. Then you will realize that your bored because you just can't afford to purchase and experiment on new mechs. Hre you are 4 months into the game and only own 4-5 mechs and still have 100+ to collect and at this point you will realize the daunting grind required to progress in this game and likely think about quitting for something less grindy.

This of course is if you get lucky and don't have to suffer through some nerf or another that totally destroys the builds on your 4-5 mechs that you enjoyed thus making them no longer enjoyable to you and making you possibly have to invest millions of more C-bills trying to turn them back into something you enjoy again.

This is the world all the veteran players have been living in. Now maybe you will get lucky and after release there will be fewer balancing changes but consdering all the features that didn't make it into release, well I doubt you will be this lucky.

In any case, good luck and I do hope you can enjoy the game. I haven't quite given up on it but PGI makes it harder and harder every day not just to find another game to play and be done with it. Oh and sorry for the negativity but PGI has earned it.

Welcome to the game OP!

Now do yourself a favor and forget the URL that led you here... as you've probably seen, you want no part of this community. It's absolutely self-destructive and toxic. Just play the game and enjoy it.

Good luck out there!
