There was once a young mechwarrior, who quit the battlefield, struck down by many issues. And on his coming back, he obtained the things he required to join.

But the program would not install. He had employed the typical install, but the dull, authoritative setup progress on his screen, for hours, did not move from "Initializing"

And thus, he looked through the window of his downed raven, with blue screens on his mech, unable to install the program he required to use his machine. And he watched as the other mechwarriors went on without him. They went over the ridge. Leaving him alone,
With only one to acompany him in his loneliness:
"Setup Progress: Initializing..."

TL;DR/More direct: MechWarrior Online Setup is stuck on Initializing.
But I have had MWO on my PC before, at a time it ran well.

Things I have tried:
Switching off firewall and AV
Running as administrator
Changing installation path (An error message states chosen location is already in use, althought it is not )
Re-downloading installer

The issue with the newer version message when trying to run the dxwebsetup again is that is related to the directx 9c itself. At the moment you may have downloaded an older version of the directx 9c (dxwebsetup.exe). the Dxwebsetup does not update itself. Utilize the above link. It is the entire dx 9c package. Download it, double click on it to get it started in unpacking it, ie download/directx 9c then run the setup.exe from the unpacked location. I use this when I want to ensure that any possible corrupted dx 9c files are being overwritten.

Key removed, ran installer as admin, firewall and AV disabled, no other installer running at the same time.
Still stuck on initializing

Tried new paths, still tells me that chosen location is still in use.

This raven pilot is still stuck

I let the installer run after I followed advice, but it's still stuck :C

Restarting PC has sorted the issue.

Step 3: Reinstall the Game
If you need to re-install the game, please do it the following way:

1) Go to Control Panel -> Uninstall MechWarrior Online

2) Check the install directories and remove any folders leftover
** Path: C:\Program Files(x86)\Piranha Games\MechWarrior Online

3) Delete files from temp folders:
** Path: C:\Users\*Your Windows Session’s ID*\AppData\Local\Package Cache
** Path: C:\Users\*Your Windows Session’s ID*\AppData\Local\TEMP\MechWarrior Online

4) Clean up registry keys, there are a variety of third-party tools which can do this.
** You can download one free here: http://www.piriform.com/CCLEANER

5) Run the application with the default options

6) Clear your browser cache

7) Restart the computer

if this doesnt work then can you post your dxdiag
** To access it, press the Windows key + R, type Dxdiag and press Enter. Save all information locally.

Other useful info:

MWO registiry key is stored in Hkey_current_user -> sofware -> pirhana games

To open reg edit, press windows key + r, and type in reg edit

Running installer or game in admin may help

Your antivirus may be clashing with game, or executable, or installer

Switching your computer off and on may help

Hey thanks for this post...... I had a Raid-0 Setup and one of the drives went and I I got everything running again but could not get MWO installed....I kept getting the another version is already installed....it was the registry I had to remove....thanks again for this post.
