This game needs to stop placing so much emphasis on the "Kill/Death Ratio" on the Base Stats page. It's anti-productive to role-warfare and gives the wrong message to new players, who see KD/R as a sort of "Level" mechanic (i.e. the higher the KD/R, the "moar l33t my skillz r, yo").

Just make it a minor stat under the Mech Stats tab, as an average of the player's KD/R across each mech they own.

However...in its place on the Base Stats page, there needs to be a "level" mechanic that performs that same function...but allows players to gauge it more accurately.

This new "Combat Value" stat (or some such) should be an amalgamation of their average KD/R and W/L ratios, as well as their achievements in matches.

TL:DR

- Too much emphasis is placed on KD/R in the stats section.
- Make it a minor stat in the Mech Stats section.
- Replace it with a stat in the Basic Stats section that reflects player skill more accurately.

The game doesn't care about your K/D ratio, only you and other players do. It is your W/L ratio that determines your Elo ranking.

KDR should work differently. Instead of only counting whoever got the death blow, it should award fraction kills based on how much damage you did to the destroyed mech. If you did 90% of the damage you should get 0.9 kills and if someone else does 10% of the damage they should only get 0.1 kills.

Either that or just change it to KADR (Kills-Assists / Death Ratio)

When I say "the game" I just mean the psychological effect K/DR has on most players. As it is, because the K/D ratio is featured so prominently in the base stats, players get the false impression that K/DR is the most important stat in the game. Many players view it as their "level" of skill in the game.

If the K/DR stat was downplayed a little more by being listed on the Mech Stats tab instead, it would just become another stat that makes up the bigger picture.

It's not featured any more prominently than any other stat. In fact, the W/L ratio is placed right above it. Doesn't matter what PGI does with it, people still will make a big deal over their K/D ratios.

Kills/Deaths stat is above Wins/Losses. I'm talking about Kill/Death Ratio, which is listed prominently in green (or red) on the base stats page. Win/Loss Ratio isn't even listed on on base stats.

I'm suggesting that they move the Kill/Death Ratio from the Base Stats page.

Either that, or list the Win/Loss Ratio as well.

K/DR means absolutely nothing in MWO.
During beta i've suicided, blown myself up, tested ridiculous builds, constantly trained in new mechs that i've bought and sold again and again, etc.
If i wanted to i could just play in my best mech and boost my K/DR hugely, but who cares? I don't :D

Point: Fail.

Doooooooooooooooooooood. I was right there at CB runing the most inefficient builds ever.

That experience has nothing to do with this post. Come back when you are feeling the vibe, bro.

How does it have nothing to do with your OP? I was agreeing with your opinion that players place too much stock in the stat and said why i think the stat is pointless. I couldn't care whether K/DR stays, gets moved/changed, or removed because it means nothing.

the only person placing emphasis on it is ... you? since no one else can see it? lol.

I would like to see damage and assists taking a bigger role. But KDR does mean something. However, stuff like "matches pugged" vs "matches in 4 mans" vs "matches in 12 mans" would help understand TRUE pilot skill.

A pug with a 3.0 KDR is a beast compared to a 4 or 12 man player with the same or better KDR.
