I understand that some ppl want the gauss nerfed because they don't use it or they want the ppc nerfed. The purpose of the gauss was to give a good weapon that doesn't produce heat to offset the high heat of ppc, LL's, and rockets.
The way the gauss is now makes it not worth having and that's without adding the additional nerf of min distance. If your going to start adding a min distance on the gauss then add it to AC's and LL's just to make it that much more ridiculous.
I know some ppl won't agree with me and that's fine.
Please restore the weapons and stop trying to make everyone run with the medium and short range weapons because you've nerfed the long range ones too much, ie gauss, ppc, erppc. The ppc in this game don't even mess with electronics like they did in the other Mech games which I think is a pretty big nerf by itself.

my understanding is that this was added instead of min range. And I know several people who like it this way and use it as intended.

Its a new mechanic and I like it. Makes things little more challenging and there is nothing wrong with that.
I enjoy my long range game much more now then I did few weeks ago.
If you can't make it work then I'm sure you are in need of practice, please stay in training grounds until you have mastered the walking tutorial and even then just stay in the training grounds you will have more fun winning that way

Actually to my knowledge no one wanted the Gauss Rifle nerf, at least not since way back in closed beta when its hitpoints got nerfed. What people wanted was for the Dual PPC+Gauss build to be nerfed so they wouldn't get hit with a 35 point pin-point alpha. This nerf to the Gauss is PGIs answer to that. Basically make it so that the Gauss Rifle cannot be grouped with any other weapon, even with a Macro. Additioinal you can't even do it but assigning a button to the Gauss and a button to the PPCs and hitting both at once.
This is PGIs typically bass ackward approach to fixing an issue. Break something not broken to fix an unrelated issue that usually isn't as dire a problem as most forum whiners think it is.

Ultimately when it come down to weapons balancing it all boils down to people wanting "The red team nerfed and the blue team buffed." Once that puzzle is solved... weapons balance will be achieved.
