Can anyone reccomend some mech warrior novels to read? I'm quite interested in storyline side of it but don't understand much. I've read there's over 100 novels and I'm goin to assume some are probably hard to get, preferably easy to aquire novels.

Gray Death Legion trilogy (Decision at Thunder Rift, Mercenary's Star, The Price of Glory) to start with. It's pretty much where Battletech fiction started and establishes a lot of what the setting is like.

Heir to The Dragon is one of my personal favourites and gives you a good feel for the Draconis Combine and what the man who will one day be the leader of that realm, Theodore Kurita, is like.

Wolves on the Border for a look at both Wolf's Dragoons and the Draconis Combine as well as the reason for the feud between them which lasted for pretty much a quarter of a century.

The Camacho's Caballeros trilogy.(Close Quarters, Hearts of Chaos, Black Dragon). A fun series of books set in the Clan Invasion era following a mercenary company, and more specifically an infantry scout who's made a specialty out of knowing the weaknesses of battlemechs and preying on those very weaknesses.

I feel the following books will give you a good feel of the BattleTech Universe.

I would start with the Warrior Trilogy by Michael A. Stackpole, is about the events before and during the Fourth Succession War( 3028 to 3030). The main acts are the wedding of Hanse Davion and Melissa Steiner, the experiences of Justin Xiang on Solaris VII and as spy on Sian, the vendetta between Morgan Kell and Yorinaga Kurita, the machinations of Michael Hasek-Davion and of subversive elements inside the Steiner nobility, ComStar's secret manipulations and of course the most important battles of the war.

Heir to the Dragon, by Robert N. Charrette, follows Theodore Kurita for twenty-two years as he learns to survive and thrive in the subtle and deadly courts of the Draconis Combine. The novel is also the only narrative of the War of 3039.

The Saga of the Gray Death Legion is a series of books about the famed Gray Death Legion mercenary unit. Most of the novels are by William H. Keith, Jr., with additional writing by Andrew Keith and Thomas S. Gressman. (This is the Mercenary unit that found the Helm Memory core that brought back Star League Tech right as the Clans hit.)

The Legend of the Jade Phoenix trilogy, by Robert Thurston, is the story of the fall and redemption of Aidan Pryde, hero of Clan Jade Falcon.

Blood of Kerensky is a trilogy by Michael A. Stackpole about the Clan Invasion (3049 - 3052)
There are many other fine novels you can read. Here is a complete list of BattleTech Novels.

v This is a list that I made over a year ago and I post when someone asks for a recommendation.

There are digital downloads of the novels, sixty-four (64) of them to be exact, not sure where they are now .. I am positive you can search for them as the internet was originally designed to share information.

I have a detailed list here
http://mwomercs.com/...ost__p__2722993

IMO, you should read only those novels, only in that order.

If you just want the best novels...I would ready the Blood of Kerensky trilogy followed by the Legend of the Jade Phoenix trilogy. Those are the best novels of all the battletech books IMO.

I hated the Jade Phoenix trilogy and wanted just about every character in it to die a horrible, screaming death. The only one remotely sympathetic was Horse. The protagonist gave me no reasons to want to see him succeed at anything beyond managing to hit the toilet bowl on his second try. Utterly loathed him. His only redeeming feature was that most of the other characters were even less likeable.

They characters were not meant to be sympathetic. They were not intended for the reader to sympathize with them.

That was why I liked them so much. The characters demonstrated how alien Clan culture really is. The kind of people such a caste system would eventually produce. We have a common frame of reference with the Inner Sphere characters (even the evil ones), but the Clans are unlike anything in the real world. They are an artificial distortion of real humanity.

Use this page: http://www.sarna.net...ttleTech_novels

to find the ISBN numbers

and this page: http://www.bookfinder.com/

To be able to find the more obscure books.

It's best to start with either the warrior trilogy, imo, because it introduces you to the universe at large pretty well.

Than the blood of kerensky trilogy is a good one to read to introduce you to the clans.

If, for some perverse reason, you actually LIKE the clans, read the legend of the jade phoenix trilogy (also later released as a single book) if you want to find out just exactly how messed up the clans are.

After that ... if you want to read the rest of them, just get the earliest novels and "go up" the publishing timeline from there.
