Title says it all. EVE is great for EVE, and what works in WoT works in WoT. While I'm sure these games can offer inspiration for MWO, shouldn't we just let the devs develop the game they're thinking of? Besides, a game of WoT combat with EVE's horribly complex economic model tacked in, seems like nothing I'm interested in playing, giant battle armour or not.

True but this is the internet and alas you will see a few mre of those I think, not that I approve of it.
On a sidenote, the boards could also be broken down to more easily digested parts. Having one General Board and one Suggestions Boards is asking for an extreme amount of Duplicate topics, and will surely have topics dropped from the horizon that elsewhere would have served as the correct place to post in instead of creating a new topic. Exempli gratia, Suggestions broken down to General Suggestions with the subboards Gamemechanics, Environment etc.

surely it would be far more profitable if the devs made the game we all want to play?
but yes, posts saying "please make this like X" should be re-labeled "please use X as creative inspiration, and implement all the bits that made X fun into this game"
just look at WoW's track record, see what works in other games and genre's , and patch it into ours.(stop well short of kung fu panda's)
POB vehicles were much better in SWg/JTLS you could get 20 people in 1 ship and have a party, or fly them to a spawn point to shoot the turrets for huge XP
in WoW ... 2 people could sit on your mammoth and ... erm , well... they just sat there

Taking information and ideas from games that work is never a bad idea. I don't think it is unrealistic for a great idea to be modified to fit another type of game.
When people refer to things, most of the time they are just refering to an idea, or a small game play mechanic that they tend to like. Never a bad thing to see what works and what doesn't!

Many of those posts about WoT and Eve are things MW fans hope the devs will NOT adopt from those games.

I agree, WoT is designed for its own game, so does EVE. I do hope MWO does find its nitch somewhere in between WoT and EVE in a sense of being more in depth than previous Multiplayer Mech games.
Should someone ask for MWO like EVE, slap them over the head and tell them to research before opening mouth, because http://www.perpetuum-online.com/ is already out.

Actually I would respectful disagree. Sure in a PVE game the eve and wot model would suck but in a purely PvP game both have their benefits. The eve model of having skills you have to learn and take time would keep everyone from walking around in an atlas within a month. I don't really care for eve but it would work. As for WoT I think it would fit perfectly into the battletech universe. Once again the time it takes to get the best tier tanks keeps everyone from running around in an IS-7, because lets face it, everyone is thinking right now about getting behind the controls of an assault mech. These are just my 2 cents but me being a MW fan and a battletech player since 1986 I think I represent at least a few of the other mech warriors waiting to play this awesome game.
