Greetings all,

I'd like to post some images from "That other game" that uses this same CryEngine and has some very nice views. Possibly the MWO artists can reference items within these pictures for new and exciting venues for us to battle in and on. The skyline views are in some of these are just "wow that's nice" events.

The Area's are from:

City venues,
Ice planets,
Savannah views,
Skyline views,
Base images,
Dish references.

So here they are, and they were and have all been stomped around on and by mech's before you have seen them here.

So what do you think could we use area's similar to these, or could we even just outright "get the rights for them" and test them here.? I have run Mech's on all of these maps and they were fun and sometimes difficult battles.

Ground fog, traction on different surfaces, ability to actually walk under the water-across a lake, amazing views over vast areas, not being able to see the other end of any map, the sky views were outstanding on all the maps, different times of day and night from sunrise to sunset, (sunrise and sunset battles were epic), construction equipment in actual construction sites, defensive stations and protection where you would actually want to defend from.
[And did I mention there were actual Drop-ships on the map!]

For reference they are all from MWLL maps.

This is one of the problems I have with PGI's maps: even the city maps kind of lack scale. Those pictures above have a ton of it. I'd love to see better maps coming out of the map-making team. I love this game, but the maps are really substandard. :\

Are you saying that these MW:LL maps, made entirely by the mecha community on the same exact game engine are far superior to MW:O maps several times over?

Good call PGI on NOT letting the community add map content to the game, I'm sure this won't bite you in the ass long term.

gasp! but we can't guarantee the quality of these far superior maps and therefore could NEVER support that!

Um, have any of you saying these maps could be "superior" even THINK about how much LRM-spamming would occur?

Through I do agree these maps are beautiful to behold.

While those maps are beautiful to look at, I see a lot of frustration building up on them.

From what I can see in the above pictures, they are almost entirely flat and wide open terrain. The moment you show yourself to the enemy on such a map you are dead, if we had them in MWO. Without respawn, I do not believe that they will make for interesting fights.

Yeah, if you thought autocannons and LRMs were overpowered now, wait until you try them on those maps. PGI has deliberately built uneven terrain into their maps to promote weapons balance on them.

I don't know... I see plenty of cover on all of those images. Also, risking battle in an open terrain is a tactical decision that at least should be possible. On PGI's maps it is virtually impossible to get 12 mechs into a battle line without someone running into a building, hill, or whatever. Such big open maps promote tactical decisions, scouting and maneuvering. Oh I remember the days of MW4 when we had league fights in which we maneuvered for half an our while only taking pot shots and harassing with scouts, until one team saw an advantage and sought battle. Nothing fun for PUGs, that's for sure, but in coordinated games, such maps are vastly more satisfying than the current "Do we camp behind hill A or B?" tactics.

Greetings all,

Having played on all these maps, I can attest that there were not massive LRM's being overdone in the battles. Yes there were some cases, but not on the normal. Mostly the direct fire weapons ruled, Gauss in all it's class's, UAC variants, or the closer SRM, MRM, Streak weapons were used in conjunction with tactical prowess and cover.

All the Mech's that could be taken at the start ranged in the low cost light brackets, and they were stock load-outs with some variants. As the player gains experience and credits the higher tier Mech's become available, this is were you will start to see a few LRM, ATM, Arrow IV units fielded. Again, these are stock builds, no modifications allowed at all, so piloting any Missile Mech comes at a cost. Spotting, targeting, and the use of TAG, Narc are actually required if your using these selected Mech's. Team play and tactics are absolutely required on these types of maps, some being 8km square or more in size, well beyond visual range for most Mechs.
As I stated, the Mech's can not be modified, so if it existed in the Tech manuals, you should be able to find it. Battles normally ramp up as credits are gained, Mechs are used, sold, upgrading to better or heaver chassis. (although not always a good thing depending on tactics, speed requirements.) Scouts are normally an absolute requirement, or your doomed to be ambushed or flanked without knowing it.

Comparing the maps we see in MWO to these, there are few avenues on the MWO maps that allow for completely unseen or unobserved movement routes. They are just not large enough or designed for large scale battles. Most were designed in the days of 8 max Mech's being fielded and were designed to get the Mech's into combat as fast as possible. The Maps from MW:LL could have many more pilots involved in battles than we see in MWO. And not just on the ground. The amount of detail spent on the "little things", like fully detailed objects from chain-link and barb wire fences, signs and labels everywhere, to detailed vehicles and equipment is outstanding. It's eye candy, with most items being destructible, but the effect it can have on pushing the Pilots into the game is effective. Running your Mech past objects that actually look real can be rather distracting and emersion ramps up on most well executed maps.

Side note here: Some of the maps from MW:LL took nearly a year to complete, others longer.
