I made an interesting discovery while I was waiting to earn enough for DHS for my firebat mech.
It had 6 flamers and SHS. I found that if I went against a mech with DHS I could not overheat it unless the mech got careless, and there is no practical way to do so. Why? Because % wise I would inflict almost the same heat on myself as the mech I was facing. Except my heat can go above 90%. Then when I do hit the top of my heat threshold, I cool down slower than the DHS mech, and I'm doing less damage.
Because you have 2x cooldown AND 2x capacity with DHS, it's a 4x bonus. If they wanted DHS to be a true 2x bonus, then you need with 2x1 or 1x2 or 1.4x1.4 (root 2).
And I would agree, the trail mechs are nearly unplayable if they have SHS, because you essentially have 1/4 the heat capabilities as everyone else.

Please don't encourage the devs to desecrate the game further.
If we encourage them to fix heat, they will do something stupid, like make flamers shut down heat sinks, or make heat sinks become destroyed when overheating.
Or they might do something really really stupid, like coolant missiles, but they only fire if you have the friendly missile lock module, and the launcher uses GXP for ammo.

Why would PGI buff SHS? Doubles are the ones that need buffing.
If you try hard enough you can actually find builds using SHS that dissipate far more heat than DHS. You just have to weigh up your options on what you what the mech to do. Do you want a brawler? Sniper? Turret? Once you make that choice the rest is easy.
I modeled an Atlas RS after the Annihilator 1E: Std 200, 4 PPCs and 42 SHS, has a heat efficiency of 1.44, by comparison the DHS version only has a heat efficiency of 1.33. It's a turret plain and simple but my God it dissipates heat more than any other mech out there.
