Original build.

A very unique build.

Thanks for all the feedback, I haven't been ignoring it; I've been sick.

Here's my current setup, or as close to it as I can get without looking at the MWO mechlab; I'm on a work comp. AS7-K
I got a personal best of 721 damage with 3 kills, 8 assists, and a match score of 111 with this current build.

The STD Heat-Sinks are due to C-bills, I will be upgrading as soon as I have enough. i have to admit, I spent all my C-bills on an Orion, so I neglected my poor Atlas. This AS7-K is what I am going to end up with after I get the C-bills together. I welcome any critiques you have to offer, and look foreward to seeing you on the battlefield.

But as someone who uses STD heatsinks often I must say unless you have 32 or more, you will be vastly inferior to a DHS mech. After 32 you start getting even to superior to a DHS mech due to the odd way that MWO does heatsinks.

You've done well, though. Here's a recent one of mine. Uses SHS for superior efficiency and to never shut down. But that AC/2 doesn't help make that dream possible.

This was something I made shortly after I was done playing it pure stock. It's essentially stock + extra ammo and DHS + reallocated armor for superior long range combat capabilities (stay far away, carry vastly reinforced front armor, excel. Let them get behind you and you're screwed though).

Also a big favorite. Chainfire the large lasers or set the two on the arms together and separate the one on the chest. Reallocate armor to something more standard if you plan to brawl with it.

Remember that the heart of the Atlas K is that it is a long range mech. The chest lasers are actually supposed to be mounted on its back on tabletop to shoot things behind it in case if something sneaks up on it.

Between the twin AMS, the weapons all being long range, etc. the mech's ideal role by stock design is to escort either an Atlas D-DC as combat support, or to escort a lance of missile boats. So if you avoid brawling, you'd be quite impressed with it and the XL engine.

This build, 32 SHS. A sniper's rig. Before Gauss rifle charge-up mechanic.

This build, 42 SHS, twin ER Large, twin Large. Atlas RS though.

Ammo to the outside, some armor stripped to add heatsinks, like this.

Personally, I prefer Large Lasers on an Atlas, so I use a hotter build: AC20+LRM15(A)+2xLL+2xML. It is faster and has better torso twist than your build. The MLs are backup weapons. You will be facing targets pretty often in an Atlas, so Artemis is pretty helpful -- more useful than a bigger launcher.

DHS are also a no brainer change, the 10 DHS in the engine are worth 20 SHS, so by throwing money at this upgrade you've effectively saved yourself 10 ton and 10 crits at no disadvantage.

Great info in this thread. I'm a n00b also considering the purchase of an Atlas. Could someone explain this statement to me? I thought DHS only offered 1.4 x the effectiveness of SHS, which would be the equivalent of 14 SHS? What am I not understanding correctly?

Thanks. Great to know. Seems like there are very few scenarios where you wouldn't go with DHS's if you can afford it.
