If they could at least have better range, or lower heat, then they'd be viable.

Then they would be normal lasers.

Make Pulse Lasers fire one bug pulse that delivers all of their damage. That'd be a nice phat buff.

Then they would be ballistic weapons.

I would avoid buffing damage to pulse lasers at this point, but a range increase would do wonders for their viability.

They need to become the counter to all the sniping that's going on. The first 6 minutes of almost every match is a poptart war.

3 medium pulses currently give 18 damage in 3.6 seconds

3 MLaser gives 15 damage in 4 seconds

3 more damage and almost half a second less time to cycle.

fairly close to correct.

adding some slight range might be ok. Spulse doesnt need a range buff, it already has the same range as a small laser with significantly more DPS.

Mpulse could maybe take a 50-100m long range buff.

Lpulse could stand a touch more damage like 12 dmg perhaps.

You're comparing the DPS and saying "Yeah, pulse lasers do sliiiightly more damage per second, they're about balanced." Are you kidding? For double the weight and 2/3 the range plus more heat? You should really be comparing the SPL to the regular medium laser, since they weigh the same and take the same number of slots. For that, the medium laser has three times the range and more burst damage in exchange for a slightly better damage/heat ratio and a shoter burn/recycle time.

your discounting the fact that the shorter beam duration is a significant benefit in terms of focused damage.

Lower heat by 10%, reduce cycle time by 10%.

If the devs cared AT ALL about pulse lasers they would have looked at them sometime during the last year and buffed them instead of 'normalizing' them as if that's something that actually was wanted/needed. Actually this could be said of countless things that they've said they were going to change/fix 'soon' and then completely ignored forever.

Remember Raven engine buffs? Remember the cat head hitbox they promised would be normalized? Remember the dozens if not hundreds of other things that were broken that they said they'd look into fixing?

Yeah but at least they never promised to look into fixing heat generation/weapon fire rates...the one thing that is breaking just about everything else. :)

I find it quite funny that people are discussing how underpowered pulses are when every laser is vastly underpowered compared to AC's.

Not every mech can equip ACs and of those which can only the heavier ones can accomplish very much with ballistics alone. Lasers are either boated or backup weapons and in either instance they do fine. Pulse lasers are the ones that need help and I'd be happy with either reducing their heat to being equal with the non-pulse variant or increasing their crit damage to internals.

Pulse laser are too heavy too hot and short ranage. There are very few reasons to take pulse lasers except for a few niche builds. What can be done to make pulse lasers better?

all variants of laser should have their heat reduced by 1. this may have saved other weapons from being nerfed aswell.
