Assaults will fill their role, as soon as all the "girls" behind him stop either:

1. Parking right up the big guys a$$ so he can't possibly back up even 2 steps to dodge fire.

2. Stop running away as soon as the fighting starts, abandoning 80-100 tons to a gang-*** because they are either too afraid to JOIN the damned push forward, or just want to pad their epeen K/D stats by playing janitor later.

I either play an atlas brawler or a long range atlas. Personally I would rather have the armour of an atlas when sniping than the lower tonnage mechs. The only reason it may be bad is if the atlas is needed to lead the charge. But this is not always an important part of a match.

The purpose of an Assault mech is absorb damage while dishing it out - to be the focal point of pain. If you're not willing to suffer lots of return fire, your armor melting in rivers from your mech as you blow the enemy to pieces, you really shouldn't play an assault mech, IMHO. Other mechs move faster and pack a punch, so if avoiding hits vs. taking them is your thing, go with one those. There's no shame in it. I can't pilot Lights worth a darn, so I rarely use them; same idea with folks who can't really pilot assault mechs.

That being said, no mech is invincible, and even an Assault will wither faster if it is alone. So, everyone else, help out the assaults. Flank the enemy, annoy them, get in their face, so when the assault arrive soon after, it can drop the hammer and end it.

I'd like to point out that sometimes this problem may stem from owning multiple chassis-I sometimes switch from my x-5 or Jager to my atlas without changing my thinking, I start trying to play the wrong role and die or act "like a girl" because I was in a different role the very last match one minute ago...and no,going half as fast doesn't help me notice sometimes.

Honestly... I now your new and you think biggest is best ... but you are seriously ROBBING YOUR TEAM of potential fire power and support they need by prancing around like a little girl scared of her own shadow!

INSTEAD, pick a medium mech, where their role IS to support and follow others into battle. To many damn times I see some *** hat standing back only to realize his entire team is dead, only then to realize he shoulda joined the battle.

If the enemy is split! PUSH GOD DAMNIT.

Bu nope! You gotta stand back, way in the back, DRIVING YOUR HUMMER SUV of a mech and trying to feel "safe".

I know some of you are insecure and like to feel "protected" but...

**** SUVs. **** HUMMERS. Cars or go home.

Of course the flip side is you stay the hell out of their firing arc when they do assault the enemy. I've seen more than a few lights and meds try to zoom in front their own teammates fire to get their own hits in and get hit by friendly fire.

Another thing is, stop riding our *****! I've died more than a few times because I had much smaller and more agile mechs grouped up behind me when I needed to get back under cover. Why? Because the freaking lights on our team decided **** off somewhere and not scout leaving me in the unfortunate position of finding the enemy team's heavy/assault lance.

And as people have said, if we commit you commit too! I've died more than a few times because I decided to commit and suddenly realized I had no freaking support! They all ran away because someone fired a medium laser at them or something.

You want us to commit? Then you guys need to be there supporting us because without that support we are the single biggest target on the field.

Also way to fail to realize that there are some assaults that do better at supporting. Like the Stalker. Without arms, that thing has very limited firing arc so it's better hanging back. The Atlas is a generalist as is the Highlander and Victor. Another support assault is the Awesome. That thing is too much of a furnace most of the time too brawl effectively.

You're an *****.

Women play this game. Some of them just so happen to be little girls.

One of them was named Sarah. I'm sure most of us know her story.

If you want to play army join the army.

It's a videogame.

Lol this thread is like so many other QQ play your class right threads. Really just a place to vent for all of us that just got done pugging for a few hours. I know a lot of you have units that you belong to, but if you don't have a home, look up a unit to drop with and make some friends. Then at least you might have 3 others that you can communicate and coordinate with and ease your frustration level. Hell who knows... you and your buddies might even turn the tide of battle in your favor :) Might I suggest phoenixdominion.com for all of your Merc needs. A full service merc corp that loves noobs and vets alike. We are willing to train the newest and drop with the most seasoned grisly vets on the battlefield.

Let's be honest - when people are new they think biggest is best.

In weightless pugs, with the exception of maybe trading in 10 tons for a Highlander from an Atlas..

..it is.

Lurmstalkers make me really sad if you want to boat lrms that's what the catapults for, I've actually seen then without even a medium laser for close in defensive.

There's nothing wrong with assaults carrying long range weapons but you have to get stuck in at some point, my atlas have 350 std engines for just that reason it's only 62kph but it makes alot of difference.

well I will disagree with you . if you look at multiple designs my so called lurm, stalker that is packed with tag, 2 meds for defence, and 3 lrm 20's with artimis works just fine( cannon design called the salamander ). factored out same speed and heat then made adjustments to fine tune to my liking. yes there is a disadvantage to getting rushed and not much defense but it is designed to have friendlies to help you of for even better matter actually use "r" to target so I can support them. using lrm's and having success in an assault takes alot of practice to know the firing lines and anticipating enemy movements keeping mobile but still able to fire. yes it is a one trick pony but so are the most mech designes they are made for specific purpose. with slower speeds than all other mechs by far making a pushing build with short range weapons is not entirely fun specially on some of the larger maps it usually results in being a range finding moving target for the snipers on the other side.

To be honest guys all classes are played badly, a lot. Its just a lot more noticeable when its an assault that's doing it.

Last night a Misery actually turned tail and ran away from a cataphract leaving me (also in a cataphract) completely alone when his buddies caught up with us. If you are in an assault you should not be playing the coward.

Then again there was plenty of terrible play on show that match, the assaults are just more memorable.

Its more a case of a lot of people not really knowing how to play the role their mech is designed for.

P.S. I love it when assault mechs try to 'pop' over a hill, big slow lumbering beasts can't 'pop' anywhere, they are just asking to get shot.

Lots of grown men pretending to be futuristic robot pilots so they can stomp around and shoot stuff, all in a video game based on an old modelling board game. And we are pretty much all complete nerds just to boot.

I wonder why there are few women playing the game.....

When I use my Highlander I am the one to charge in. (If I can get there before the battle is over) I have it set up with an ac20, 2srm6s, 1 srm4, and I think it is 2 medium lasers. I have to get nice and close. If I can get to an enemy before my armor is all gone then I can kill it 95% of the time.
