So I have been racking my brain on what mech to buy with c-bills. I was thinking of a Victor, Highlander or go with one of the mediums or perhaps just wait for the Orion. I tend to like mechs with good versatility but mediums have always had a special place.

Highlanders are arguably the best mech in the game ATM, so there's that. Victors are excellent, too. I've been hearing mixed things about the Orion (the CT might be a problem) but I'm personally saving up for one.

Hmm, Highlanders have always been a good mech as far as I know. I can see the problem with the CT on Orions, probably like my Cataphract which always gets cored. Thanks for the input.

To comment on the Orion, I don't own any of them either but I've noticed something about their hitboxes. The CT is indeed fairly easy to hit, but at the same time the sides are easy too. Usually you'd expect a walking-CT type mech to have hard to hit sides like the Catapult, or for wide-side mechs like the Centurion or Stalker to have a narrow CT. The Orion, based on my observations from shooting at them, seems to get the worst of both worlds. You can pretty much pick them apart from whichever hitbox you choose due to the contours and shape of each body part making them stand out from one another.

Victor is my vote, it's survivability, agility, and hardpoint placement is hard to beat.

.............

According to what?

They are good, but best in the game? I would disagree. I would actually give that title to either Jagers or Ilyas, because they bring not dissimilar firepower but WAY better speed.

*Shrugs*

Anyhow, to the OP:

I would say avoid the Orion for now. The CT is massive, and it's movement profile is more akin to an Assault than a heavy.

IMO, if you are used to Mediums, either go for a Medium, or use a Victor. It is far far far more mobile than a Highlander, carries nearly as much firepower, and not much less armor. But that mobility will get you in and out of places the Highlander has to hope to slug out of. It's also WAY better at fighting off Lights than the Highlander, because it can actually turn at a decent rate.

Just to comment on the Orion; in the 100 drops I have made in them, 65 have ended in my death (thankfully, I have seldom died before taking someone else with me in it). Of those, exactly 6 were from side torso destruction. (Of which in one instance my side and ct went together, so IDK, and the other was an ammo explosion on a non XL mech that I forgot to equip CASE in) Regardless, less than 10% of my deaths were from Side Torso destruction. Of the rest, ALL were CT. so I'd say the Side Torsos are relatively safe. In fact, I now run XLs in ALL of mine.

Not that I would recommend it to a new player. (im not) The quickdraw for me tends to last a long time, even if in, im dead situations, in fact, I die more to being legged first, then cored in a quick than just a ct/st kill.

edit: as to what to buy the highlander and victor are both great mechs!

edit2: I also dont like telleng ppl what they should run cause I run alot of things ppl dont.
