I have to admit, I was expecting a big news release right up at the top next to the Saber Package avertisment with details on all the events they were going to have for launch. I mean I was seriously expecting that even without new features they would have some sort of launch event with a tournament, prizes, maybe C-bill or XP increases for certain accomplishments.

I mean there is a ton of things they could do to hype up the game and get people excited, even without new features but the silence is deafening.

Totally shocked we don't even have at least a single sentence reminding us it is launch.

Why was this moved to Upcoming Features? From in the news? This is about MWO not being in the news... Whatever looks like it got moderated to hide it.

You should feel lucky. I pretty much made the same exact post and it got moved to "Off Topic". I mean at least "Upcomming Features" gets some traffic.

Sorry to hear than man it's defiantly not off topic. It's a big concern. It really shows how little they care or how inexperienced they are at making games.

ASK THE DEVS 46 - ANSWERED!

Question from Monsoon: What can we expect for Launch? If there's no CW, UI.20, Lobbies or Training Grounds what will make it a Launch versus just another day in Beta?

Answer from Bryan: You can expect development to continue a steady pace with new features, tuning, bug fixes, and content being released 2-3 times per month.

In the world of online development, where development of new features and content never really ends, Launch is a really just ceremonial milestone. Online development has very little in common with tradition retail box products, where little future work is done once you “Launch.” Going from Closed Beta to Open Beta is arguably a much bigger deal than launch because we no longer reset the game data and everything a player would do from that point on was permanent. For launch we feel the game has achieved a natural balance and stability that warrants the Beta title to be removed. Nothing else changes in terms of how we build, test, or deliver features once we launch, other than natural evolution in development practices.

We have a full slate of features coming out in the next 3 months, among the UI 2.0, CW, and other major features players have been requesting. We plan to reveal some details about these, including previews starting with the Launch Party later this month.

And also answer from TWEETER

Yes most of us have read this. However none of this would have prevented PGI from creating some sort of launch tournament, events and special rewards to playing on lauch day, you know things that get the players excited and hyped while glossing over the lack of new content.

I really don't understand what they are thinking or realize how important the "Official Launch" of the game is on forming impressions. If launch really does end up being totally the same old, same old, they are going to have ALOT of people lose faith in this game, especially if they are new prespective players that have been waiting for lanuch to finally get started with the game.

It just seems like in the last few weeks there has been little to no build up to this launch event today and there is still no mention of an official launch coming in any appreciable way that an average user would notice. It just seems like once they figured out that it was nothing significant was going to be released for today they had to start playing down the launch event.

And honestly I don't blame them, I am sure they were forced to release on Sept 17th due to some IGP executives hoping for better numbers this quarter.

Honestly, please don't crowd fund AND get publisher funding for a game ever again. It is impossible to reconcile the two sources of funding and their expectations since they have completely different view points. One wants excessive money at the cost of all else, the other just wants a good game to play. Look at the turmoil and pain of development PGI is going through compared to Star Citizens amazing development process. It is like night and day.

True launch to all mechwarrior fans will be when community warfare is out, simple as that.

"Soft" launch or not, just give the fans a tidbit. A sneak peek for something great, teaser trailer for CW or concept CGI, anything. Even without the buzz there should be a celebration :) I like to celebrate stuff.

I still don't understand how this is a "launch". Don't get me wrong, If UI2.0 and CW still need some development, that's cool, I'm patient. But I'd expect something more out of a launch than a Mech we've already seen for Cbills and maybe some fixes.

Still hoping for a big surprise...

They'll be announcing Operation 24 after the patch today.

At the least I would have had a free day of premium time. I would also tried to have some form of tourney going for today. I understand that a lot of the major items they wish they had for going live, CW and UI2.0, are not here but that is no excuse to going "Meh" on launch day.

Also I agree the lack of advertising or attempts at stirring up some hype seems strange. You'd think we'd at least see things on Twitter. The community here on the forums probably has them too scared to do even that now though.

They are relying on word of mouth.

Because they still think the people who are unhappy are on an island and really almost every account ever created is owned by someone who will praise the game.

Unfortunately word of mouth is not good at the moment due to players feeling they were deceived and letdown. You can say what you want about the validity of metacritic but the casual gamer looking for reviews is going to read a lot of those poor reviews. The only saving grace at the moment is the fact that it's free to play but with all of the new relaxes hitting the market and next gen consoles around the corner I can't see this game being a financial success. It's just too shallow at the moment.
