New player here, and after my 25 matches, made 14.5 million, and spent nearly the whole day here getting advice so I wouldn't have buyers remorse.

Well I finally cobbled my first mech "War Pig" (all my mechs will be named for Sabbath songs, hence my pilot name) :D and man is this thing a blast so far!!

My "dream mech" that would fit my play style & make me happy otherwise, really shouldn't have been doable, but one mech seemed to pull it off.

Ideally, I wanted to be able to take a punch better than a light or most mediums, move 78-85 kph, jump and here's the unlikely part: Use my favorite three weapons in the entire game!

Large, medium, and small pulse lasers, the small ones as an afterthought in the arms, to ward off nosy lights. And this mech must not overheat like a cheap grill when proper weapons groups are employed at the proper ranges.

Also the ability to employ an XL motor without side torsos displaying numbers and NASCAR endorsements! This mech took me a whole day to sketch up, and it's worked nicely in a few matches.

Thanks to all those knowledgable & helpful community members who assisted me yesterday. You know who you are! :)

Tell me what you think, I know on paper, this mech is no cookie cutter and may seem odd.

Hope to kill you all in it one day soon, LOL! :D

Your build is OK if it must be pulze lazors on a Quickdraw.

However, the weapons have limited use on a Quickdraw. LPLs are currently a waste of tonnage vs LLs. SPLs require you to be very close to the target, which is more suited for light mechs that can dart in and out of trouble. I would instead use 4 MPLs for light hunting, and 2 ERLLs for long-range punch. Some dropped armor, and a XL320 engine fits. Consider this.

Note also that the Quickdraw dies a lot because of its size. Most mediums and heavies are easier to pilot, and generally take punishment better. To avoid frustration and have a useful platform for more experiments, I recommend a Cataphract 3D. Due to limited hardpoints, this one could actually work with LPLs for close-range work.

Personally i'll swap the LPL to arms, and the small pulse laser to meds.

My loadout of choice for such chassis is this Baby

It runs a little hot, but it's efficient if you remember your skirmish role, stay at range and use your 2x PPC to weak the desired sections of enemies, keep moving and jumpin tru cover never show up twice from same direction and use speed as your advantage to reinforce your team wherever you need.

If Brawl breaks in and you feel mandatory to join (to soak dmg from other friends or maximize your firepower try to stay at 150-250m so your Med lasers and PPC can be used as full dmg, if something gets very very close, rely on your 4x med lasers and ignore the PPC to avoid excesive heat.

Despite what others say if you keep turning non stop and using your JJ to get above every little obstacle while in brawl and fast turning, you'll notice this mech can take a MASSIVE punishment, oftenly you can end with almost all armor red or gone due how easy it's to force others to spread dmg, despite the so much complained oversize stature.

Have fun with your first own mech!
Without changing your build I too would recomend putting the LPLs in the arms - they are much better suited to fend of lights then the SPLs and it gives you a lot more flexibility in terrain - If you would bring (ER)PPCs or ERLL instead for real long range they would fit perfectly into the torsos and would be better at firing over obstacles then in the arms.
personally I would probably prefere MLs instead of the MPLs(better heatmanagent and similar range to the LPLs + additinal tonnage for more JJs) but that is only opinion.
Anyway enjoy your first mech!

Thanks guys...those pulses were way too hot on Terra, so I went this route, all out of cbills now too! :D

Salute Sabbath
I would move the ERLL to the arms
the longer you look at me with a center torso mounted weapon the easier
it will be for me to respond with CT hits to you.
The ML is on target for a shorter period of time and would be your primary vs lights

But good build just the same, IF you wanted : you could get the same build with an XL325 (tweek at 96+KPH) would cost the AMS and install Endo

Quicky:

P.S. you have 1 ton left over XL335 for speed tweek of 99.5KPH

I may try an X-5 for a palette change & to borrow it's engine when I get paid, and I think I will make this my War Pig Prime, lol!

Oh, on a side note, "Sabbath" wasn't just my favorite band in the early 70's, but I also had a black cat I named Sabbath....she lived to be 13, and on 6/06/06 (666), at midnite, after having her put down and unable to afford cremation, I buried her under a full moon....

That's a blues song waiting to happen, and after 20+ years as a semi-pro blues guitarist, I just can't make myself write it.

You will change your builds so often... think its one important part of the fun of this game to do so. Play whatever you like, no matter if other people like it or not. It has to make fun- thats the only important criteria :D

Grats bro. Move one of the jumpjets from right to left torso. Take one dhs from the arms and put it in your right torso. Now all crit slots are filled helping to protect your xl engine. Consider dropping a dhs and adding endo steel to increase the size of your engine and if possible get an extra 2.0 dhs in the engine.

How do slots being filled protect your engine? Critical hits to the engine do nothing atm. Maybe someday they will but not now. The only reason to put dhs in the torsi is so you keep them once your arms are blown off.

And you only get 10 x 2.0 dhs maximum, dhs in the engine slots are still 1.4.

Way too slow for SPLs. At the very least, upgrade them to a single MPL.

Also, having bigger weapons in the arms means you can aim them better (unless you're using Arm Lock, in which case, you should learn not to).

If you want Pulses, try this: QKD-5K. Much faster, so you can close with the pulses.

Personally, I'd rather run this though: QKD-5K

On a whim, I bought a Wang to grind that 30% perma-boost and that turned out to be a fun mech too!

Definitely a fun mech. When you grind out the cbills, a bigger engine for extra speed, another ton of ammo and double heatsinks (you always want double heatsinks because the engine heatsinks become 2.0 heatsinks so 10 dhs = 10 std hs!):

I'm doing the cookie cutter for now, with a 300 XL, but I had hella fun with my LB-10X and one ER Large! It never even pretended to run hot, and I had 4 tons of ammo, do NOT stand still and ignore me! :)

Congrats and great choice on the 5k. The Quickdraw is under rated, there are lots of haters out there. I have over 150 matches in my 5k and love it. That boy can dance! I run 2xLL and 4xML with and XL and DHS (can't recall specifics atm). The 5k is my favorite. I've parked it in the garage right now as I'm working on mastering the Orion, but I'll never sell it.

How are you liking the Orion as a striker or, (please God!), a brawler?

You will like all 3 of the centurions you get. I've never used them, but they are a great chassis. Welcome to medium mechs. :)
