I'm tempted to post in this thread and then lock it so I can "win" but that's probably more effort than it's worth.

Then we'll be forced to send The Thing after you.

Not The Thing from the movie The Thing, we have our own version. He's just this weird... thing that looks exactly like a man in a suit, except it isn't. And he sits outside your windows and stares while weird things happen in your house and things go bump in the night, until you unlock the thread again.

And here I was thinking I would be forced into Hufflepuff! :o Now I have to figure out how on earth I will earn the fifty points back before the house turns on me and makes me sleep in whats left of the basilisks chamber. :(

Off topic question to you guys since I think somebody here must know something about Gundam lore.

How well does the armor on your average post-Neo Zeon war MS hold up to beam rifles?

I know the Jegan and Geara Doga have ceramic/titanium alloy composite armor so I assume based on just guesswork that they could take at least 2-3 beam rifle shots to the chest before going down, but info on this is really hard to find.

I could just watch the show, I know, but Netflix doesnt have Gundam and episodes online are very hard to find.

Sent from my phone so I apologize for typos.

As for in Gundam I can only go on what I have just read and that says the beam is comprised of mega particles moving at near light speed and the armors are generally coated with a translucent layer made to defeat only conventional lasers. The armor looks to be layered titanium ceramic alloys (also from just having read over). The beam should do its job of conveying massive amounts of energy to the localized point of impact, super heating the coating and underlying armor and allowing the particles to shear away from one another. The vapor cloud of atomized material should obscure the beams path so at that point it comes down to beam power/ duration/ density/ angle of impact verses the density/ reflective/ refractive nature of the vapor cloud and armor thickness/ density. That being said, I would not want to take more that a quick glancing shot or risk sever damage to ones mobile suit.

(It also looks like I need to log in and pick up a new contract >_<)

There also exists a specialized anti-beam weapon coating, I don't see why most MS wouldn't have it, but I dont know if it exists on the body of MSs themselves or just on their shields as that isn't specifically stated either.

I wish Gundam did not irritate me, I like the suits, the acting and story just got on my bleh side. Kind of like bell peppers.. I liked them but my body rejects them in a rather violent fashion unless they have been mercilessly processed(and yet I can eat other cold and hot peppers in various stages of raw through cooked form[why dost thou forsake me oh pepper of bell?]).
