I have taken a break fro MWO for a few months now, and I wonder: is the time right to come back?

In a word

No....

Launch was, non-existant, no new content, and some little bug fixes making this the most hyped patch day ever.

PGI true to form, lots of hot air with very little substance.

Hm to bad. I quit playing because the gameplay felt more and more stagnated. If that has changed I will give it another go tonight... maybe.

The last few patches have made the game worse and worse and worse.

Retar... er, 3rd person view added.
***** mechanic added to Gauss rifle
Matchmaker broken WAYYYY worse than ever. I would rather go back to preELO matchmaker that at least got weight right.
Phantom heat penalties ruins many builds ( Laser HBK, Laser Flame ) trying to solve a problem that isn't in the game anymore ( OP PPCs )

Things are trending in the wrong direction and have been for a while. But hey, we launched!

The only way to find our for sure, is to drop into a few matches and see for yourself =D

The few drops I had last night were NUTS! I never knew what to expect... one was almost all newbs, another all pug vets..

In one word, maybe.

I don't know what made you take a break. But as someone that has been betaing since closed I can say the game is in its best state in at least 6 months. Log in, give it a try and decide for yourself.

Anticlimactic - That's the best word to describe the launch.

I'm in the same boat as the OP. Took about a month off, come back and just 2 new mechs added, same make shift interface and game modes. No community warfare, nothing.

I even took 2 days off work to jump into the launch. Real disappointing. I would rather have seen the launch pushed back 8+ months than this.

No... I wouldn't come back yet

ELO is borked (seen a stompfest every single game today)
Matchmaker is taking 2~5min to find a match
UAC 5 is the new "machine gun" boat to run
Phantom heat on top of high heat pretty much kills energy weapons
Large maps have yet to be restructured to where a team of lights won't out cap a heavier team (extending the cap time just made it extra boring)
Terrain and texture maps still don't line up so weapons fire gets blocked by the air surrounding objects.
Instead of simply adjusting convergence or increasing weapon cooldown to fix balance they add phantom heat and bork over just about any weapon that people stat to boat with. (UAC will get borked [again] next week mark my words!)

Granted I am still playing but it is sure as hell trying my patience.

An opinion from the other side:

- Weapon balance is better than ever. PPC boats are gone, AC/40 Jagerbombs are rare, Gauss/PPC is difficult and rare, 2x Gauss is deadly but difficult in close range, UACs are still good but macro users no longer play in God mode, and LRMs are dangerous but bearable.
- My game hasn't crashed or frozen in weeks.
- I haven't gotten stuck on a map in weeks.
- ELO is functional. I don't care if one team is a little heavier than another, but I haven't seen 8 assaults vs a mixed team of heavies and mediums in a long time.

Was launch some fantastic, life-changing experience? No, but I'm having way more fun than I was back in October of last year.

Guessing not a sports fan? Soccer hasn't changed in ages yet kicking a ball down field against human opponents seems never to get old for some people. MWO has become my soccer.

I couldn't even start the game yesterday. Did a fresh install and patched up everything. But when I pressed the play-button the whole thing just crashed to the desktop. No error message or anything. Disappointing.

If you are expecting that the game has changed a lot, I would advice you to wait a bit longer..

It are still the same stompy mech matches without any metagame/endgame, or real goal to accomplish (accept the "gotta catch em all" achievement)

It is still fun occasionally, but the game still hasn't evolved yet in the past couple of months

Got to say the game is in the best state its been in for a while, and while the launch was very quiet (I assume they saved the budget for the launch party in LA or wherever its being held) the game is still the same frustrating but lovable beast.

hence 1 year of open beta.

The fun stuff's only getting started.

I for one enjoy MWO. Its kind of funny that the people who play it the most also complain the most. Some people are just never happy about anything.

While the changes lately have been a little sweeping and take some getting used to, at least the cheese mechanic exploiter types of players have been neutered. No more insta-PPC death, pop-tarting is almost non existent, and while heat is more of an issue now, it is more of an issue for everyone. The playing field has been leveled out for the most part.

At this point you actually see mechs using mixed weapon systems and different builds, other than the occasional lrm-only builds which are still lame imo.

While I don't agree with the 3rd person mechanic I can understand why they did it, plus you get to point and laugh because it's obvious when someone is using 3rd person because of the floating camera.
