I'm a fairly new player with MW:O and although I have played countless hours of the previous Mechwarriors, I am not too good, so don't judge me too harsh!

So, I have been doing some experiments with JM6-S and tried to get a good build for it. And I'd like you to tell me if my current build is any good. I have had some decent results with it (I think highest was 485 dmg). The idea in the build is to snipe at medium/long range and in the lategame go shredding them apart with MG:s, although I've heard MG:s aren't the best right now.

So, simply tell me what is good in it and what is wrong with it. I know I should upradge to DHS, but I have still some C-Bills to get for it and I would like to buy a medium as well.

Here is the build : JM6-S

Overall, your mech is grossly underpowered. I would recommend the following:

*) Invest in double heat sinks immediately.
*) Commit to a single weapon system mentality. In other words, "specialize". PPCs are not a Jager's strong-point. The ballistic mounts in the arms are.
*) The Standard Engine is good in a Jager; it allows you to function despite losing one or both torsos. The 260 gives good speed, but is heavy.

EDIT: And get your armor up, immediately! Your armor is *way* too low, my friend. You always want to deploy at near-max armor (and if it's not max, then your armor is weaker only in your legs).

If you're looking for "starter" Jager builds, consider the following specialized variants (Note, these are for the DD variant, but you get the idea. The designs are mostly interchangeable):

1) Ranged fighter: Dual-gauss: http://mwo.smurfy-ne...b402afd5c2c5d0d
2) Brawler: Dual LBX: http://mwo.smurfy-ne...6f2192d20016773
3) Brawler: Dual AC/10 STD: http://mwo.smurfy-ne...04810761e80ed59

Well I will go for the DHS before grabbing a medium that is for sure.

And that LBX brawler seems interesting, except that shouldn't the STD engine be used when fighting close quarters as a Jager?

Here. Give this build a shot. It's intended for the new player on a budget, and you don't have to buy an expensive XL engine or double heat-sinks. You can also engage at range but still have some (limited) brawling effectiveness.

Correct. It's a trade-off. STDs are *heavy*, and you run the risk of sacrificing ammo loadout because of the weight. On the other hand, XL's make you incredibly vulnerable (perpetuated by the community knowledge that most Jagers run XLs) but let you move *fast*. In that case, speed is life. Personal preference comes into play when chosing engines.

I kept your mech almost identical save a switch to DHS: Modded JM6-S. Btw if you don't fire the PPCs this build is actually heat neutral...

Okay I got DHS and first tried what Shadey said and when I get CB for dual LBX I'll try that. Thank you : )

Glad you're enjoying it! That's one of my favorite Jager builds. It rarely survives a match, but does a *lot* of damage.

For variation, try dropping 2 med lasers and slapping two MGs and a ton of ammo on the mech. For 2 tons, you inflict a constant 2 damage per second for null heat. Just a thought.

See you on the battlefield!

When you have the C-Bills try 2xAC2's and 2xAC5;s, with 2xML's in the torso for backup, XLengine, DHS, and near max armour (lose some from the legs).
Your target won't be able to see from the shake/smoke and with the AC's alone you will kill anything in seconds. You heat up fast though, so keep an eye on it  but you can take out an Atlas in around 8-10 seconds and overheat in around 15 seconds.

You can slap on Ferro for 1 more ton of LBX ammo and then you have about a half free ton
http://mwo.smurfy-net.de/mechlab#i=67&l=aa4f9eb13bcae61afc96ce49b2129eff63d59ada

O
r lose the free ton and bring your mech up to a 275 STD
